5-10 over the posted. We now have the radar machines on the side of the road that show your speed when you pass. I am going to see how fast I can pass it.

On the interstate, I'll go 8-12 mph over...depends how the flow of traffic is going.
Around town on the rural roads of South Jersey, I go pretty much the speed limit. They're generally pretty reasonable. |

Well, the factory sets the speed limiter to kick in at 141 mph.....
![]() I generally drive 5-10 over with a radar detector on the dash. As far as top end, I've only goosed it up over 120 once, and that wasn't really intentional. ![]() |

I try to drive safe for the conditions. On the freeway I usually try to keep 12-14 over the limit to avoid the big >15 miles over ticket. On sides streets and whatever it just really depends.
Around here we have some weird situations of big 3-4 lane one way roads that are technically "residential" and posted at 25 mph even though they are the major traffic arteries through the city. Those I'll sometimes be in the 40-50 mph range (and have people passing me) depending on conditions. Strangely I feel the people rigidly at or below the speed limit are more dangerous than people driving fast because they become obstacles by not keeping up with the pace of traffic. The worst is slow people cruising in passing lanes. If you ever drive somewhere like the autobahn where the rigorously enforce lane discipline you can tell that distraction and carelessness are much more dangerous than speed by itself. Of course combined is just a recipe for tragedy. |

I agree. Lately I've been seeing a lot of people on my way home from work who go no more than 10 under the limit (4 lane divided highway), and always right alongside someone else in the right lane. Nobody in front of them for a good 1/4 mile or more, and a big cluster of people behind them trying to get around them. I can tell that many times these people are doing that intentionally because they tend to speed way up and block you in when you try to get around them. ![]()

The general pace of the cars around me has a big part to play in my speed. I never want to be the fastest or the slowest... middle of the pack. 5-10 above is usually key on the back roads, maybe 5 above the speed limit on highways.

Tough to answer with so many factors that come into play.
what I'm driving,my pickup or Buick- what time it is- where I am- As a general rule,if the conditions permit; I will be honking down the road. Keep in mind,I have had a CDL since I was 18.I am 52 now. You might say I have a mile or two on the clock... |

I've gotten too many speeding tickets and figured out that they are not worth it anymore. I guess I'm getting old. That and I've lost about 5 or 6 friends/schoolmates from auto accidents. I drive for a living and see how the fools drive, and I don't want to be a dead fool.
I used to be wide-ass open all the time. I even had a sticker on the back window that said "drive it like you stole it". I got rid of it, slowed down, and got a sticker that says "don't laugh... your daughter might be in here" |

On the interstate highways if traffic allows I am going 80 in the 65 zones. Usually with heavy traffic on my normal routes, the flow of traffic is around 72-75.
I drive almost exclusively in Ohio, so its 65 everywhere. City streets I drive the speed limit.
