Active Humidifier and Heater
Hi Everyone,
Being frustrated with what to use to humidify a cabinet humidor I got for X-mas I built my own that also keeps the temperature at a steady 68 degrees as I live in the Northeast and turn my heat don to 60 at night. I am posting some pics in case anyone is interested in doing this project. It works perfect and one fill lasts for about 6 weeks. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B3D...it?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B3D...it?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B3D...it?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B3D...it?usp=sharing |

Re: Active Humidifier and Heater
Hmm I would love a parts list. I don't need the heater side but more active humidification would be great and I'd like to see how you sensed that as well as triggered the fans to get moisture going.

Re: Active Humidifier and Heater
I have had quite a few requests for a parts list. It will take me about a week or so but I will publish it here along with the links on where to buy all the stuff.
If you notice on the pic of the humidor you will see a sensor on the middle shelf on the left hand side. That senses both RH and temperature and is connected to the control board on the bottom pic (the one on the front of the humidifier with the red LED temp and RH display) |

Re: Active Humidifier and Heater
Here is the parts list. If you need help email me and I'll do what I can to help.
12v-6 amp power supply - if you are not going to need heating 2 amps or above will suffice http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 RH and temperature controller/relay - This is what turns the fans on when the humidity drops below whatever you set it for. It is also what controls the heat if you need heat. I can draw up a wiring diagram on how to wire this. Let me know if you need one http://www.ebay.com/itm/AC-DC12V-Int...item25913809b7 fan controller - this will allow you to control the speed of your fans. The speed will likely depend on the size of your humidor. Smaller humidors should use lower speeds and larger ones....well you get it http://www.ebay.com/itm/181442289824...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT fans-these are dependable, quiet and cheap but you can use what ever fans you would like. The bottom link are fans with blue LED's built in http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mini-Univers...item5d3ec9f54a http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 blue led lights - these are glued to bottom of fans for a lighting effect http://www.ebay.com/itm/261538954430...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT red led lights - these are glued to heating fans http://www.ebay.com/itm/261538954430...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT power connectors - these are used to connect the power supply to the humidifier's main control panel http://www.ebay.com/itm/271357415251...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT fan and lighs connectors - these are used to connect everything. they are small so they do not get in the way and clutter the cigar box or whatever you are using to build the humidifier http://www.ebay.com/itm/20-PAIR-Micr...item3a917201e3 Plastic Jars - You pick the size or use your own http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/ite...4619&catid=604 heat shrink wire wrap - these are used in place of electrical tape which is bulky and looks horrible http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 grommets - these are used to dress up any holes you will need to drill for wires or the bottons on the humidity controller http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 heat sync - You will need two of these to dissipate the heat from the heating elements http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 heating element - You will need 2 of these. These are pads manufacturers use for heated clothing. The are quite safe at 12 volts but do not pump more voltage than that into them. two of these would be sandwiched between two small pieces of aluminium sheets (can be bought at any Home Depo) and the heat syncs would be glued to either side. https://www.sparkfun.com/products/11289 wick for jars to distribute humidity http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 |
