Songs that speak to you
It happens to me very regularly that certain songs speak to me and they get plenty of airplay during that phase. Does this happen to anyone else?
Currently it is Behind Blue Eyes No one knows what it's like to be the bad man to be the sad man Behind blue eyes No one knows what it's like to be hated to be fated to telling only lies But my dreams they aren't as empty as my conscience seems to be I have hours, only lonely my love is vengeance that is never free No one knows what it's like to feel these feelings like I do And I blame you No one bites back as hard on their anger None of my pain and woe can show through But my dreams they aren't as empty as my conscience seems to be I have hours, only lonely my love is vengeance that is never free When my fist clenches, crack it open before I use it and lose my cool When I smile, tell me some bad news before I laugh and act like a fool If I swallow anything evil put your finger down my throat If I shiver, please give me a blanket keep me warm, let me wear your coat No one knows what it's like to be the bad man to be the sad man Behind blue eyes |

Old Crow Medicine Show
BEACON TOWN Summer's gone, cool winds are coming And all it's pleasures slip through my hands The leaves are falling all around me And the moon is rising slow again All the people stop and stare And they shake their heads as I pass them by Do I look troubled, do I look lonely? Do I look like I got tears to cry? Oh the hours, the daylight lingers All my deeds I leave undone Well through the night I hear the wolves are howling And then I dream the angels come Well a good man can always go wrong And sometimes the bad get it right Well in this life I can't do neither It's like turning the day to night Well it must be Sunday morning Or a holiday for the King For I can hear the bells are tolling Yeah and I can hear the choir sing And now i'm slipping in the river And watching all my bridges burn I'm looking right into the sun And i'll make it home when it come my turn Troubles, oh, they are upon me The lessons I have never learned Well send my ticket, send it one-way For i've got no bridges left to burn |

Re: Songs that speak to you
Hello,
Is there anybody in there Just nod if you can hear me Is there anyone at home Come on now I hear you're feeling down I can ease your pain And get you on your feet again Relax I'll need some information first Just the basic facts Can you show me where it hurts There is no pain, you are receding A distant ship smoke on the horizon You are only coming through in waves Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying When I was a child I had a fever My hands felt just like two balloons Now I've got that feeling once again I can't explain, you would not understand This is not how I am I have become comfortably numb O.K. Just a little pin prick There'll be no more aaaaaaaah! But you may feel a little sick Can you stand up? I do believe it's working, good That'll keep you going through the show Come on it's time to go. There is no pain you are receding A distant ship smoke on the horizon You are only coming through in waves Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse Out of the corner of my eye I turned to look but it was gone I cannot put my finger on it now The child is grown The dream is gone And I have become Comfortably numb.

Staind - All I Want Is You
What I leave, When you go, What I see, And what you show, And what I guess, And when I don't, Is something you all ready, all ready know, [Chorus:] I can't live without, All I think about, All I want is you, You're all I dream about, I can't live without, All I want is you, The things I do, I go through, And all I see, When Im awake, And what I make, The **** that I take, Is something you all ready, all ready know [Chorus:] I can't live without, All I think about, All I want is you, You're all I dream about, I can't live without, All I want is you, Ohhh,... Is you, Is you, Is you, Is you, You're all I dream about, That I can't live without, All I want is you [Chorus:] I can't live without, All I think about, All I want is you, You're all I dream about, I can't live without, All I want is you, I just can't live without you, When all I think about is you, And all I want is you |

Re: Songs that speak to you
On a daily basis it is one of these two -
B.B. KING lyrics - I Like To Live The Love My song is a serious matter It reflects what I feel If I say I love you, I mean it 'Cause in my song Every line is for real Every man or woman Enjoys going home To a peaceful situation To give love and receive love Without any complications Whether my tune is short or long Whether my lyrics are weak or strong I like to live the love That I sing about in my song I like to live the love That I sing about in my song Music is love And my love is music In perfect harmony So when I sing I have sung all about The love of you and me I never got angry with my guitar 'Cause when I strike a chord It gives me what I wanna hear So I'm finding out that We are quite like my song together, my dear Outside answers Should always be forbidden Problems should be solved And never hidden I like to live the love That I sing about in my song I like to live the love That I sing about in my song A Country Boy Can Survive - Hank Jr. The preacher man says it's the end of time And the Mississippi River she's a goin' dry The interest is up and the Stock Markets down And you only get mugged If you go downtown I live back in the woods, you see A woman and the kids, and the dogs and me I got a shotgun rifle and a 4-wheel drive And a country boy can survive Country folks can survive I can plow a field all day long I can catch catfish from dusk till dawn We make our own whiskey and our own smoke too Ain't too many things these ole boys can't do We grow good ole tomatoes and homemade wine And a country boy can survive Country folks can survive Because you can't stomp us out And you cant make us run Cause one-of- ‘em old boys raisin ole shotgun And we say grace and we say Ma'am And if you ain't into that we don't give a damn We came from the West Virginia coalmines And the Rocky Mountains and the and the western skies And we can skin a buck; we can run a trot line And a country boy can survive Country folks can survive I had a good friend in New York City He never called me by my name, just hillbilly My grandpa taught me how to live off the land And his taught him to be a businessman He used to send me pictures of the Broadway nights And I'd send him some homemade wine But he was killed by a man with a switchblade knife For 43 dollars my friend lost his life Id love to spit some beechnut in that dudes eyes And shoot him with my old 45 Cause a country boy can survive Country folks can survive Cause you can't stomp us out and you can't make us run Cause one-of- ‘em old boys raisin ole shotgun And we say grace and we say Ma'am And if you ain't into that we don't give a damn We're from North California and south Alabam And little towns all around this land And we can skin a buck; we can run a trot line And a country boy can survive Country folks can survive |

Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars
It plays non-stop in my head. Cool thread Shawn. Play it here. We'll do it all, everything, on our own We don't need anything or anyone If I lay here If I just lay here Would you lie with me And just forget the world I don't quite know how to say how I feel Those three words are said too much They're not enough If I lay here If I just lay here Would you lie with me And just forget the world Forget what we're told Before we get too old Show me a garden that's bursting into life Let's waste time Chasing cars Around our heads I need your grace to remind me to find my own If I lay here If I just lay here Would you lie with me And just forget the world Forget what we're told Before we get too old Show me a garden that's bursting into life All that I am All that I ever was Is here in your perfect eyes They're all I can see I don't know where Confused about how as well I just know that these things Will never change for us at all If I lay here If I just lay here Would you lie with me And just forget the world |

(Just for Tom)
Poor old Johnny Ray Sounded sad upon the radio, he moved a million hearts in mono. Our mothers cried and sang along and who'd blame them. Now you're grown, so grown, now I must say more than ever. Go Toora Loora Toora Loo-Rye-Aye and we can sing just like our fathers. Come on Eileen, I swear (well he means) At this moment you mean everything, With you in that dress my thoughts I confess verge on dirty Ah come on Eileen. These people round here wear beaten down eyes Sunk in smoke dried faces they're so resigned to what their fate is, But not us, no not us we are far too young and clever. Remember Toora Loora Toora Loo-Rye-Aye Eileen I'll hum this tune forever. Come on Eileen, I swear, well he means Ah come on let's take off everything, That pretty red dress Eileen (Tell him yes) Ah come on let's, ah come on Eileen, please. |

Dead Can Dance - How Fortunate The Man With None
You saw sagacious Solomon You know what came of him, To him complexities seemed plain. He cursed the hour that gave birth to him And saw that everything was vain. How great and wise was Solomon. The world however did not wait But soon observed what followed on. Its wisdom that had brought him to this state. How fortunate the man with none. You saw courageous Caesar next You know what he became. They deified him in his life Then had him murdered just the same. And as they raised the fatal knife How loud he cried: you too my son! The world however did not wait But soon observed what followed on. Its courage that had brought him to that state. How fortunate the man with none. You heard of honest Socrates The man who never lied: They weren't so grateful as you'd think Instead the rulers fixed to have him tried And handed him the poisoned drink. How honest was the people's noble son. The world however did not wait But soon observed what followed on. Its honesty that brought him to that state. How fortunate the man with none. Here you can see respectable folk Keeping to gods own laws. So far he hasn't taken heed. You who sit safe and warm indoors Help to relieve out bitter need. How virtuously we had begun. The world however did not wait But soon observed what followed on. Its fear of God that brought us to that state. How fortunate the man with none. |

"Daughter" by Loundon Wainwright III
Everything she sees she says she wants. Everything she wants I see she gets. That's my daughter in the water everything she owns I bought her Everything she owns. That's my daughter in the water, everything she knows I taught her. Everything she knows. Everything I say she takes to heart. Everything she takes she takes apart. That's my daughter in the water every time she fell I caught her. Every time she fell. That's my daughter in the water, I lost every time I fought her. Find More lyrics at www.sweetslyrics.com I lost every time. Every time she blinks she strikes somebody blind. Everything she thinks blows her tiny mind. That's my daughter in the water, who'd have ever thought her? Who'd have ever thought? That's my daughter in the water, I lost everytime I fought her Yea, I lost every time. Re: Songs that speak to you
There's something in the way she moves,
Or looks my way, or calls my name, That seems to leave this troubled world behind. If I'm feeling down and blue, Or troubled by some foolish game, She always seems to make me change my mind. And I feel fine anytime she's around me now, She's around me now Almost all the time. And if I'm well you can tell that she's been with me now, She's been with me now Quite a long, long time And I feel fine. Every now and then the things I lean on lose their meaning, And I find myself careening Into places where I should not let me go. -- she has the power to go where no one else can find me, Yes, and to silently remind me Of the happiness and good times that I know, you know. Well I said I just got to know that: It isn't what she's got to say Or how she thinks or where she's been. To me, the words are nice, the way they sound. I like to hear them best that way - It doesn't much matter what they mean, Well she says them mostly just to calm me down. And I feel fine anytime she's around me now, She's around me now Almost all the time. And if I'm well you can tell that she's been with me now, She's been with me now Quite a long, long time And I feel fine. As well (no lyrics): Always and Forever by Pat Metheny Blame it on my Youth as played by Brad Mehldau |

Nickelback - If Everyone Cared
From underneath the trees, we watch the sky Confusing stars for satellites I never dreamed that you'd be mine But here we are, we're here tonight Singing Amen, I, I'm alive Singing Amen, I, I'm alive If everyone cared and nobody cried If everyone loved and nobody lied If everyone shared and swallowed their pride Then we'd see the day when nobody died And I'm singing Amen Amen I, Amen I, I'm alive Amen I, Amen I, Amen I, I'm alive And in the air the fireflies Our only light in paradise We'll show the world they were wrong And teach them all to sing along Singing Amen, I, I'm alive Singing Amen, I, I'm alive (I'm alive) And as we lie beneath the stars We realize how small we are If they could love like you and me Imagine what the world could be If everyone cared and nobody cried If everyone loved and nobody lied If everyone shared and swallowed their pride Then we'd see the day when nobody died When nobody died... We'd see the day, we'd see the day When nobody died We'd see the day, we'd see the day When nobody died We'd see the day when nobody died Reason: When I woke up from my little coma adventure - this was playing. Quote:
Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter Little darling, it feels like years since it's been here Here comes the sun, here comes the sun and I say it's all right Little darling, the smiles returning to the faces Little darling, it seems like years since it's been here Here comes the sun, here comes the sun and I say it's all right Sun, sun, sun, here it comes... Sun, sun, sun, here it comes... Sun, sun, sun, here it comes... Sun, sun, sun, here it comes... Sun, sun, sun, here it comes... Little darling, I feel that ice is slowly melting Little darling, it seems like years since it's been clear Here comes the sun, here comes the sun, and I say it's all right It's all right

Scare Easy by Mudcrutch:
My love's an ocean You better not cross it Yeah I've been the distance And I need some rest Yeah I had somebody once And damn if I lost her I've been running Like a man possessed I don't scare easy Don't fall apart When I'm under the gun You can break my heart And I ain't gonna run I don't scare easy For no one Yeah, I am a loser At the top of my game I should have known To keep an eye on you Now I got a God It ain't never the same Yeah, I got a dream That don't ever come true I don't scare easy Don't fall apart When I'm under the gun You can break my heart But I ain't gonna run I don't scare easy For no one Sun going down On a canyon wall I got a soul That ain't never Been blessed Yeah and I'm a shadow At the back of the hall Yeah, I got a sin I ain't never confessed And I don't scare easy Don't fall apart When I'm under the gun You can break my heart And I ain't gonna run I don't scare easy For no one And I don't scare easy Don't fall apart When I'm under the gun You can break my heart But I ain't gonna run I don't scare easy For no one

Re: Songs that speak to you
I had this one in a darker time in my life... and while I'm not there anymore, it still hits hard when I hear it.
Nine Inch Nails - Something I Can Never Have I still recall The taste of your tears Echoing your voice Just like the ringing in my ears My favorite dreams of you Still wash ashore Scraping through my head 'Till I don't want to sleep anymore Come on tell me You make this all go away You make this all go away I'm down to just one thing And I'm starting to scare myself You make this all go away You make it all go away I just want something I just want something I can never have You always were the one To show me how Back then I couldn't do the things That I can do now This thing Is slowly taking me apart Grey would be the color If I had a heart I just want something I can never have In this place It seems like such a shame Though it all looks different now, I know it's still the same Everywhere I look You're all I see Just a fading ****ing reminder Of who I used to be I just want something I just want something I can never have I just want something I can never have Think I know what you meant That night on my bed Still picking at this scab |

Re: Songs that speak to you
That one sticks in my head too. Just after the VT shootings a few video compilations showed up on youtube with that song as the soundtrack. Every time I hear it, that's all I can think about.
I little while ago I discovered bluegrass gospel on Sirius every Sunday morning. Usually something I hear will stick with me through the week. This week it's Jeff Parker - Two Roads to Travel. Can't find lyrics at the moment, I'll post them later if I can dig 'em up. |

Re: Songs that speak to you
Nice topic.
This one's pretty dark but it's where I'm at right now. Jesus & Mary Chain "Darklands" Im going to the darklands To talk in rhyme With my chaotic soul As sure as life means nothing And all things end in nothing And heaven I think Is too close to hell I want to move I want to go I want to go Oh something wont let me Go to the place Where the darklands are And I awake from dreams To a scary world of screams And heaven I think Is too close to hell I want to move I want to go I want to go Take me to the dark Oh God I get down on my knees And I feel like I could die By the river of disease And I feel that Im dying And Im dying Im down on my knees Oh Im down I want to go I want to stay I want to stay MCS |

The Green Fields of France
speaks to me about the honor and the horror the need for it, the futile-ness of it. Oh how do you do, young Willy McBride Do you mind if I sit here down by your graveside And rest for a while in the warm summer sun I've been walking all day, and I'm nearly done And I see by your gravestone you were only nineteen When you joined the great falling in 1916 Well I hope you died quick And I hope you died clean Or Willy McBride, was is it slow and obscene Did they beat the drums slowly Did they play the fife lowly Did they sound the death march as they lowered you down Did the band play the last post and chorus Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest And did you leave a wife or a sweetheart behind In some loyal heart is your memory enshrined And though you died back in 1916 To that loyal heart you're forever nineteen Or are you a stranger without even a name Forever enshrined behind some old glass pane In an old photograph torn, tattered, and stained And faded to yellow in a brown leather frame Did they beat the drums slowly Did they play the fife lowly Did they sound the death march as they lowered you down Did the band play the last post and chorus Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest The sun shining down on these green fields of France The warm wind blows gently and the red poppies dance The trenches have vanished long under the plow No gas, no barbed wire, no guns firing now But here in this graveyard that's still no mans land The countless white crosses in mute witness stand To man's blind indifference to his fellow man And a whole generation were butchered and damned Did they beat the drums slowly Did they play the fife lowly Did they sound the death march as they lowered you down Did the band play the last post and chorus Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest And I can't help but wonder oh Willy McBride Do all those who lie here know why they died Did you really believe them when they told you the cause Did you really believe that this war would end wars Well the suffering, the sorrow, the glory, the shame The killing and dying it was all done in vain Oh Willy McBride it all happened again And again, and again, and again, and again Did they beat the drums slowly Did they play the fife lowly Did they sound the death march as they lowered you down Did the band play the last post and chorus Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest |

Re: Songs that speak to you
Not Buffett's biggest or best known song by a wide margin, but the one I have always related to the most--Barometer Soup
Follow in my wake You've not that much at stake For I have plowed the seas And smoothed the troubled waters Come along let's have some fun The hard work has been done We'll barrel roll into the sun Just for starters Just for starters Barometer's my soup I'm descended from a deckhand on a sloop I travel on the song lines That only dreamers see Not known for predictability Come and follow in our wake You've not that much at stake For we have plowed the seas And smoothed the troubled waters Come along let's have some fun Seems our work is done We'll barrel roll into the sun Just for starters Sail the main course In a simple sturdy craft Keep her well stocked With short stories and long laughs Go fast enough to get there But slow enough to see Moderation seems to be the key Constantly searchin' Oh my eyes have seen some horizons And I've crossed the ocean for more than just thrills No I'm not the first Won't be the last You lust for the future But treasure the past Follow in my wake You've not as much at stake For I have plowed the seas And smoothed the troubled waters Come along let's have some fun The hard work has been done We'll barrel roll into the sun Just for starters We'll barrel roll into the sun Just for starters We'll barrel roll into the sun Just for starters

Re: Songs that speak to you
This was my wedding song, and it rings true every day. At the end of the day, when all is said and done, my wife is my partner, my best friend, my soulmate, my life.
Somebody by Depeche Mode I want somebody to share Share the rest of my life Share my innermost thoughts Know my intimate details Someone who'll stand by my side And give me support And in return Shell get my support She will listen to me When I want to speak About the world we live in And life in general Though my views may be wrong They may even be perverted Shell hear me out And wont easily be converted To my way of thinking In fact shell often disagree But at the end of it all She will understand me I want somebody who cares For me passionately With every thought and With every breath Someone who'll help me see things In a different light All the things I detest I will almost like I dont want to be tied To anyones strings I'm carefully trying to steer clear of Those things But when Im asleep I want somebody Who will put their arms around me And kiss me tenderly Though things like this Make me sick In a case like this Ill get away with it |
