USPS inconsistency
OK, I sent off a package on May 21 via Priority Mail with DC#. Then, sent off another on May 24, same deal.
Why is it that the first one is still enroute, passing through Birmingham, Alabama? Oh yeah, it is from Embarrass, WI to Montour Fall, NY. Now my map skills may not be the best, but there is some serious side-tracking taking place to get there. Here's that one. Processed through Sort Facility, May 26, 2010, 1:46 pm, ROCHESTER, NY 14606 Processed through Sort Facility, May 24, 2010, 5:14 pm, BIRMINGHAM, AL 35222 Processed through Sort Facility, May 23, 2010, 3:31 pm, BIRMINGHAM, AL 35222 Processed through Sort Facility, May 21, 2010, 10:12 pm, OAK CREEK, WI 53154 Acceptance, May 21, 2010, 99 am, EMBARRASS, WI 54933 On the other hand, the other package was going to Dunellen, NJ - leaving here on the 24th, and it is already there. Out for Delivery or Available at PO Box, May 26, 2010, 85 am, DUNELLEN, NJ 08812 Sorting Complete, May 26, 2010, 7:55 am, DUNELLEN, NJ 08812 Arrival at Post Office, May 26, 2010, 6:02 am, DUNELLEN, NJ 08812 Processed through Sort Facility, May 25, 2010, 10:17 pm, KEARNY, NJ 07032 Processed through Sort Facility, May 24, 2010, 109 pm, OAK CREEK, WI 53154 Acceptance, May 24, 2010, 3:12 pm, EMBARRASS, WI 54933 I am thoroughly amazed by the routing and timing of these two packages. Peace of the Lord be with you.

Ask Tom about the package he sent out for the troop support contest... it went back and forth about 3 times before finally getting delivered.

Re: USPS inconsistency
I have noticed several times that the tracking was sketchy. My latest tracking is by far the worst.
Now granted, its going to Belgium. But apparently the USPS contracts private companies to handle mail going to Belgium, and they in turn go through the customs process. Check out this one CP135425017US

Re: USPS inconsistency
I sent a package to Maryland recently... Well, actually, NOT recently. I sent it almost 2 months ago... It got there 3 days ago. The package, which wasn't large, about the size of a med flat rate box took almost 2 months to get there.
Good rule of thumb for shipping ANYTHING USPS.... DO NOT USE PARCEL POST. I was disappointing a brother, and it went out with some other stuff. I thought to myself, "yeah, parcel post will be fine, might take a couple extra days to get there." Really didn't think anything of it. Note to self: Make a conscious effort to send priority, or first class if you can. I felt like a schmuck, and he probably felt like I was trying to screw him. I was, of course in contact with him through the time, and was ready to send replacement items, but he had great class and patience with me and USPS. |

Re: USPS inconsistency
I do not think that priority is guaranteed for a specific time interval. The USPS web site says that they usually deliver in 2-3 days for priority. However, many have experiences of a lot longer. If you want it to be guaranteed by a certain date, you need to purchase that specific service.

Re: USPS inconsistency
Ya At least it's an unannounced bomb and not a WTS or WTT transaction so, while really annoying to me, he has no idea there's a package stuck somewhere in the void trying to make it to him and therefore isn't really affected by it. Ignorance is truely bliss in this case

Re: USPS inconsistency
Things that come to mind. There is no gaurantee on prority mail delivery time. The first package was sent mostly over a weekend. During this time frame, you'll get postal lite from both government postal employees as well as contractors. Contractors, who transport mail from post office to post office, only work half schedules on the Sundays. Also, depending on final destination, your package will be routed to different sort facilities. Don't even try to figure out how the USPS system works...it'll make your head hurt.
