My First Cigar!
Well, my first "real" cigar, anyway.
I had a break before our department head meeting at work today, so I took a stroll down to the liquor store (I know ) to see what they might have. I was almost bummed to see they didn't have any cigars, but next to the register I saw a small glass-top humidor. Through the glass, I saw the glimmer of a red and gold band - Punch! So, not being an aficionado (yet ), I went by name recognition alone and picked up two of them for $4.25 each. As far as I can tell, I think they're Royal Selection #12's - petite corona (mareva?) size, with a band that says "Punch" and "Imported". I've read some good reviews, describing them as a medium to full-bodied cigar, with a good flavor profile and slight spiciness. So, did I do good? |

Re: My First Cigar!
Hard to go wrong with a Punch. I have found a few Chevrons (read: 2) in my area that stock AF and Punch and a few boutique'y cigars in a stand up humi. I usually will grab one or two a week on my way to work.

Re: My First Cigar!
They're not RS 12's. Those are the Cuban Punch's. Sounds like the Punch Elite, maybe. 5 x 42? If it's 5 x 40, it's a London Club.

Try the Punch Rare Corojo next, I used to love those. If you do manage to score an RS12 I think your tumble down the dark side will be quick and painless

Re: My First Cigar!
They're 5.25" from end-to-end, and 11/16" (roughly - according to my drafting template) diameter, in cellophane wrappers. Must be an Elite, then - thanks for helping me clear that up.
I'm looking forward to trying one out tonight. From the reviews I've read, it sounds like a good stick and something that I might enjoy. Last edited by Mad Scientist; 01-18-2010 at 04:12 PM. |

I started out smoking non-cuban Punch's as well. They're cheap, widely available and a decent smoke. The Gran Puro and Rare Corojo are worth checking out if you can track them down.

My first real cigar was an AF curly head deluxe. My wallet has been lighter ever since.
