Question Cigar Holders (not cases)

Are cigar holders a useful tool, or a bothersome anachronism? How many people use them?

are you referring to something like the stand that cigar solutions sells?

if thats the case, then i love mine and use it often, a great little pickup

if not, then please clarify what you mean by 'holder'

No, I mean the ones that function like a cigarette holder, only fat enough to hold a cigar.

I believe it was davidoff that said something along the lines of

Smoking a cigar through a holder is alot like drinking a fine wine through a straw.

I personally have no issue with one - george burns always use one. I just find the expense would be to high considering the different and varied ring gauges I smoke. I would probably need 6 different ones.

I also personally like the taste of a cigar in my mouth. My cigars stay pretty dry so I could see if you were a "wet cigar" guy where they would be handy.

Plus you probably would still need to smoke torps without one.

Overall I say No - saves reading my espresso fueled rant.

Are you talking about something like this?

I'd be interested in seeing one for a cigar, don't think I ever have.

Never seen one. Are they for cigars you buy from a B&M or over the interweb?

They were never actually a product until recently, I would guess. Someone recently thought that they might catch on. I suppose they make custom spinner wheels for GEO Metros too.

Cigarette holders were popular many moons ago, and as I am aware, they had no cigar analog, nor was one needed, IMO.

I suppose if you were like Sylvester the cat and slobbered all over the head of the cigar so much you caused a problem, it might be useful, although silly looking. If you slobber that much, you probably wouldn't use one anyway. It would be solution to a problem easily solved by other methods or learning new habits for smoking.
The guys I herf with seem to be able to nub a cigar to less than 1/2 an inch if necessary, and I have been known to get em fairly small too, with only the occasional singed thumb and finger. I must admit if one of my buddies pulled one out, I probably wouldn't be able to resist mocking him mercilessly.

But that's just me, and I'm an asshole by nature. YMMV>

Good find, Jeff!
I just found this as well.
http://www.rubylane.com/shops/operaglasses/item/S-1044

I have looked at/sold/browsed thousands and thousands of collectibles and antiques, and haven't seen one, so I don't think they must have been all that popular, but I suppose to be an anachronism they don't have to be popular.

I remember seeing them around many years ago, like in the 70's but haven't seen them now or thought of them until this thread.

I've seen them on the 'bay, and wondered if anyone ever used them. On the one hand, I can see how one might come in handy; I mostly smoke robustos and toros, but those ring gauges are a little too big to hold in my mouth if I need two hands for something. On the other hand, they look kinda goofy.

I could see how they would come in handy during a ppp if you're a germaphobe. Everyone could just use their own to smoke

My ex-father-in-law used to use one all the time - this was back in the 60's and 70's. He always liked to keep his cigar clenched between his teeth so the holder served a functional purpose with that. It actually looked rather sophisticated when he wore a tux, which he would regularly do as he played sax in a swing band.
