Leon Jimenes 300 Series Corona
I grabbed the first cigar I saw in my tupperdor. Yup, had to go to Wally-Mart and grab some tupperware as my humi is full. So here was this interesting looking cigar that I was not at all familiar with.
"A commemorative cigar from the Dominican’s first (and oldest) factory. The 300 Series of Leon Jimenes is a masterfully crafted premium that combines a flawless, Cameroon wrapper leaf and supremely aged Dominican and Nicaraguan long-leaf tobaccos. The authentic wrapper leaf from Africa is dark and toothy in nature and marks the return of a Cameroon-wrapped Leon Jimenes cigar – the beloved cigar of Don Eduardo Leon Jimenes, founder of the La Aurora factory. Other than the wrapper, the secret to the Leon Jimenes 300 Series is the aging process. After rolled, each cigar must undergo an additional aging period of at least 300 days, hence the name. Although this process is not necessary, as each leaf utilized is already vintage, it does add an enormous level of balance within a savory depth of flavor. Medium-bodied, but bursting with toasty goodness, Leon Jimenes 300 Series is incredibly smooth, offering deep woody notes delivered in a creamy, and robust fashion. Absolutely delicious." The draw on this was very loose, but it did give quite a bit of smoke. As I got into the first 3rd, I couldn't put my finger on the flavor. But then I remembered making spit-balls when I was a kid, and the paper flavor back then, was very similar to this cigar. Is there such a thing as paper flavor ? The burn was even, with no issues at all. I was still waiting for something to happen with this smoke. Not much changed through the second 3rd, but I did seem to get a bit more of a pine flavor now. The smoke was nice and thick, just nothing really exciting going on. I can't really say that I was anxious for this one to end, but I knew there were better things I could be doing. As I got into the final 3rd, the flavor became quite bitter. I knew it was time to put this one away. I don't want to say I disliked it, as I smoked a majority of the cigar, but I won't go looking for it either.
