Re: Woodworking again
Time to resurrect this thread. I'm starting to get into woodworking and thought this would be a good place to get some tips and tricks.
A while back a buddy of mine gave me some lumber that was just hanging out in his garage when he bought the house. The previous owner said that the wood was close to 100 years old. anyways, i had no idea what I would do with it because it looked pretty bad. today I decided to run a couple pieces through the planer and see what happened. I have to say, I'm pretty pleased. Before: After: Before: After: and here's a small piece that I cut off the end: I still have no idea what to do with it. I'm sure I'll think of something.

Re: Woodworking again
Also, not really a hard project, but I'm making a magnetic bottle opener to put in my squadron's bar. I used a piece of red oak and stained it red mahogany. I'll be routing out a hole in the back of the wood towards the bottom and putting a magnet in it, a pretty powerful one. When you open the bottle and pull it away, the cap falls and gets caught by the magnet.
I might also use a piece of that really old wood.
