how do you light up a cigar?
Seems I've seen and heard many variations on how to light up a cigar.
Me, I torch the end until it's charred then take a few puffs with a butane lighter until it's evenly lit. I've heard puffing it as you start and roasting the tip til its lit. Any thoughts on the best way? |

What ever you feel comfortable doing is always the best way.
I have a 3 and 4 burner torch and light it right up while drawing on it. Works for me.

Re: how do you light up a cigar?
I think it is hard to say the "best way." There is a video of a guy lighting a cigar several different ways. I have tried them all such as lighting with matchs while taking puffs and not taking puffs. I have torched them and used soft flames. For me I like a 3 flame torch to get it started than i use a single flame torch to touch it up and or even it out if need be. I will look around and see if i can find the video.
Found it http://www.cigaraficionado.com/Cigar...,4696,,00.html Go down through the videos and it is almost the last one. How to light a cigar

Hope you can post the video would enjoy it. I mostly smoke 52++ RG stogies and that makes some difference in lighting. I use a micro torch and light the center area as I turn it. Then when heated up good I give it a puff out then take a puff or two. Afterwards I touch it up with the Ronson to smooth out the burn. Works pretty good that way for me. Lighting is half the fun! |

I get the outside of the foot toasted/lit all the way around then puff straight on with the lighter a inch away from the foot to get the rest going.

My wife loves the torch lighter though and has no complaints so could be it's just me.

Somebody on the old site had a great story about this. If I remember it right, he was in South America visiting his wife's family and bought a box of cigars for everyone. He went through his usual lighting routine of cutting, toasting the foot and so on. One of his wife's relatives shook his head, said "Why do you Americans make everything so complicated?", took a cigar, bit the end off, and lit it straightaway with his Zippo. Personally I prefer a torch lighter (though I've even used paper matches in a pinch).

I'm with the people that toast the foot until it is evenly chard and then take a few puffs to make sure it is lit. Touch-ups if necessary then smoke away

Re: how do you light up a cigar?
If I'm herfing or just smoking a cigar out on my porch, I'll do the whole toasting routine. On the golf course I light my sticks more like a cigarette, except I rotate it while taking a few puffs to get as even a light as possible, then purge.
