Default Top 10: Man's Man Actors

I found this list on another site and thought I would share.Their criteria being: cool and virile actor with whom we can relate and even venerate. These are men we would like to invite to our homes and hang out with.
Ranked by their date of birth.

Number 10

Ben Affleck

The babes love him and he loves the babes. Isn't that every guy's mission in life? This motor mouth who burst onto the scene when he co-wrote 1997's Good Will Hunting with Siamese twin Matt Damon is known as much for his heavy partying as he is for his acting skills. His foray into action roles like Armageddon and Pearl Harbor has been somewhat criticized as he usually fares better in dramatic roles.

Best Movie: Boiler Room
Best Quote: "Anybody who tells you money is the root of all evil doesn't f***in' have any."Number 9

George Clooney

The hip 1998 film Out of Sight really sums up Clooney's on-screen demeanor ( Ocean's Eleven , another Soderbergh picture, is a close second). After his five-year stint on ER , one of the most popular TV shows in history, this cool thespian made the jump to feature films such as Three Kings and The Perfect Storm and it has paid off. Set to earn $15 million for his next film, George is one of Hollywood's most eligible bachelors.

Best Movie: Out of Sight
Best Quote: "You'd be surprised about what you can get, if you ask for it the right way."

Number 8

Denzel Washington

The good thing about going out for a night on the town with one of the most talented actors to ever grace the screen -- the man that starred in Crimson Tide and Training Day , to name but a few -- is that all the females would flock to us. Being a devout family man, however, he would have no choice but to turn them over to me. Now part of the $20 million club, Denzel even finds time for charity work, being the spokesperson for the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.

Best Movie: Training Day
Best Quote: "King Kong ain't got sh*t on me."Number 7

Harrison Ford

This guy is a legend. And who wouldn't want a legend at his table for the Friday night poker game? This ruggedly handsome superstar, known primarily for his Indiana Jones roles and as Han Solo in the first Star Wars trilogy, was tired of bit parts on second-rate TV shows and therefore quit acting in the '60s. A successful regular-guy carpenter, he returned to acting in small roles for George Lucas and Francis Ford Coppola. The rest, as they say, is film history.

Best Movie: Raiders of the Lost Ark
Best Quote: "It's not the years, it's the mileage."

Number 6

James Dean

There were some TV shows, and films like East of Eden, Rebel Without a Cause, and Giant . And then he died. He starred in only three features and was nominated for an Oscar as Best Actor for two of them. He was the embodiment of teenage angst and introspective criticism in an age of antiseptic cinema. He was instantly idolized and the fact that he died in a speeding Porsche before reaching the age of twenty-four added to his legend.

Best Movie: Rebel Without a Cause
Best Quote: "You're tearin' me apart!"

Number 5

Sean Connery

Anyone familiar with the entire James Bond series realizes that Sean Connery is the definitive 007. Basically, the British secret agent is the Scottish actor. He is suave, witty, and oozes more charm per square inch then anyone alive. His penetrating gaze is a genuine sign that anyone would want him along on a business deal. Even though he's at an age where most people value rocking chairs, he's still living hard as can be witnessed in films like The Rock and Entrapment .

Best Movie: The Untouchables
Best Quote: "He pulls a knife, you pull a gun. He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue! That's the Chicago way." Number 4

Clint Eastwood

A cigar-chomping man of little words, Eastwood made his bones on spaghetti Westerns in the '60s like A Fistful of Dollars . Since then, he has evolved into a screen tough guy as he proved with brilliance in Dirty Harry and In the Line of Fire . Thirty years ago, he gave directing a try and he's often been lauded for it, having won Oscars for Unforgiven . Can't you just imagine him tagging along at your bachelor party?

Best Movie: Dirty Harry
Best Quote: "Go ahead, make my day."

Number 3

Paul Newman

In his long and fruitful career, he has seven Best Actor awards, including an Oscar and several Golden Globes, scores of Oscar nominations, and at least five honorary awards for his achievements. He was the smooth but conflicted pool player in The Hustler , the rebellious inmate in Cool Hand Luke , and the gruff geezer in Nobody's Fool . His subtle facial expressions and fascinating stare pale in comparison to his female magnetism. Too bad for him, as he has been married for over 40 years to the same woman. The man is also into racecars and is revered for his charitable work; what more do you want?

Best Movie: Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
Best Quote: "I have vision, and the rest of the world wears bifocals."Number 2

Frank Sinatra

Ol' Blue Eyes was the best, most popular crooner of his time. Elaborating on his successful music career, he began acting in some musicals like On the Town and Guys and Dolls . But it was in 1953 that he hit pay dirt with From Here to Eternity , which won him an Oscar in the Best Supporting Actor category. In the early '60s, he made a number of films with the Rat Pack, his ultra cool entertaining posse (incidentally, George Clooney portrayed Sinatra's character in Ocean's Eleven ). Later came edgier movies like The Manchurian Candidate, The Naked Runner and The Detective . He was the kind of man who hangs out with the boys while making the ladies swoon.

Best Movie: From Here to Eternity
Best Quote: "Only my friends can call me a little wop!"

Number 1

Humphrey Bogart

Known for his snarl and lisp, which came to be after suffering wounds in World War I, the legendary Bogey had to work through a smorgasbord of B-movie gangster roles before getting the recognition he deserved. Then came The Maltese Falcon , his greatest hit Casablanca , and later The African Queen . Humphrey Bogart's renowned smoking habit was finally the cause of his demise, as he finally succumbed to cancer. I think we can all see ourselves working a room with Bogey?

Best Movie: Casablanca
Best Quote: "Here's looking at you, kid."

Affleck & Clooney!!! No way in h*ll in the top ten. James Dean not top ten simply due to not enough body of work although what he did is worthy of consideration. Sinatra hmmm undecided for top ten for me. Others ok for top ten but how, on God's green earth, is The Duke not even on their top ten and how can you not have Clint and John Wayne one and two. Almost a coin toss as to which gets #1. Slight edge to John Wayne for me.

Also I would move Sinatra down. If this were a music list he would be number one for me. But when you have Sean Connery behind him...eh?

Wait I just realized something. Ben Affleck made the list and John Wayne did not. The Duke is not on the list.

Classic.

My wife says "what the heck is George Clooney doing on this list?" She wants him removed and not necessarily just from this list.

Funny Chit there.

Definitely better lists than that original mess.

Nicholson, Mitchum, McQueen, Duval, Brenner. All great ones also.
