Re: Job you wanted when you were young compared to Today?
I always wanted to be a lawyer that would get a client off due to a loophole then be able to work with people to get it fixed. I thought I could somehow change the world for the better this way. This was my plan until my first year of college.
Then I talked to my dad about it one day and come to find out he had the same ideas growing up. I will never forget the conversation because it was the one and only time in my life that my dad discouraged me from doing something. He kindly explained he had been playing the game for a long time and that it can't be done alone. So after that, I changed my major 5 times or so and randomly ended up trading currency. I work from home for myself when I want. Sounds like a great gig, but to be honest my life doesn't feel fulfilled. Guess that means I haven't found my calling.

Re: Job you wanted when you were young compared to Today?
It wasn't until high school till I figured out what I wanted to do, become a electrical engineer. Electronics always caught my curiosity. When I was probably 9-10, I found out that a game running off a 9 volt battery doesn't work well on 120 AC. It lit up for a second or two until it smoked.
Started on the path for a EE, but personal computers got in the way. Worked in IT for 20+ years moving position to position, finally getting out once the job became all meetings and pushing papers. Now I'm on the engineering side, programming/supporting vehicle electrical test systems. I know this isn't what I ultimately want to do. I'd like to get into the food industry. Was trying to sell my house 6 years ago to go to culinary school. Now I'm thinking a nutritionist. With the personal trials I've gone through the last few years, it is a new passion of mine.

when i was a kid i wanted to either be in the military or a police officer. i was lucky enough to be able to do both. after 5 years in the marines i was lucky enough to get out and land a police job within a couple years. i can honestly say i fulfilled my childhood dream.
