The best books for me were the old Timothy Zahn trilogy. They came out in the mid 90s I beleive. Read them when I was back in school.
Rouge Squadron series books that I've read are ok. Labryinth of Evil and Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader were good ones. (Luceno authored both)

the darth bane books were good. the second one felt like it was rush in it writing though.
i just started death star so don't spoil anything. it's taken me this long as it just came out in paperback. lol
