Greatest Heavy Metal Song EVER written. This is the song that will be played at my funeral....
Iron Maiden - Hallowed Be Thy Name Im waiting in my cold cell when the bell begins to chime Reflecting on my past life and it doesnt have much time Cos at 5 oclock they take me to the gallows pole The sands of time for me are running low When the priest comes to read me the last rites I take a look through the bars at the last sights Of a world that has gone very wrong for me Can it be theres some sort of error Hard to stop the surmounting terror Is it really the end not some crazy dream Somebody please tell me that Im dreaming Its not so easy to stop from screaming But words escape me when I try to speak Tears they flow but why am I crying After all I am not afraid of dying Dont believe that there is never an end As the guards march me out to the courtyard Someone calls from a cell God be with you If theres a God then why has he let me die? As I walk all my life drifts before me And though the end is near Im not sorry Catch my soul cos its willing to fly away Mark my words please believe my soul lives on Please dont worry now that I have gone Ive gone beyond to see the truth When you know that your time is close at hand Maybe then youll begin to understand Life down there is just a strange illusion. |

To me this song seems to be about someone taking their life and not that I think about doing it but my step-sister did. This has just always been a powerful song to me
Megadeth - À Tout Le Monde Don't remember where I was I realized life was a game The more seriously I took things The harder the rules became I had no idea what it'd cost My life passed before my eyes When I found out how little I accomplished All my plans denied So as you read this know my friends I'd love to stay with you all Please smile when you think of me My body's gone that's all À tout le monde [To all the world] À tout mes amis [To all my friends] Je vous aime [I love you] Je dois partir [I have to leave] These are the last words I'll ever speak And they'll set me free If my heart was still alive I know it would surely break And my memories left with you There's nothing more to say Moving on is a simple thing What it leaves behind is hard You know the sleeping feel no more pain And the living are scarred À tout le monde [To all the world] À tout mes amis [To all my friends] Je vous aime [I love you] Je dois partir [I have to leave] These are the last words I'll ever speak And they'll set me free So as you read this know my friends I'd love to stay with you all Please smile, smile when you think about me My body's gone that's all [2x] À tout le monde [To all the world] À tout mes amis [To all my friends] Je vous aime [I love you] Je dois partir [I have to leave] These are the last words I'll ever speak And they'll set me free |

My daughter's Sweet Sixteen birthday party is coming up in a couple of weeks and I dunno, this one has been on my mind lately....
CLEANING THIS GUN - Rodney Atkins The Declaration of Independence Think I could tell you that first sentence But then I’m lost I can't begin to count the theories I've had pounded in my head That I forgot I don't remember all that Spanish Or the Gettysburg address But there is one speech from high school I'll never forget (Chorus) Come on in boy sit on down And tell me about yourself So you like my daughter do you now? Yeah we think she's something else She's her daddy's girl Her mama's world She deserves respect That’s what she'll get Ain’t it son? Hey y'all run along and have some fun I'll see you when you get back Bet I’ll be up all night Still cleanin' this gun Well now that I’m a father I’m scared to death one day my daughter Is gonna find That teenage boy I used to be That seems to have just one thing on his mind She’s growin' up so fast It won't be long before I’ll have to put the fear of god into Some kid at the door (Chorus) Come on in boy sit on down And tell me about yourself So you like my daughter do you now? Yeah we think she's something else She's her daddy's girl Her mama's world She deserves respect That’s what she'll get Now ain't it son? Y’all go out and have some fun I'll see you when you get back Probably be up all night Still cleanin' this gun Now it's all for show Ain’t nobody gonna get hurt It’s just a daddy thing And hey, believe me, man it works (Chorus) Come on in boy sit on down And tell me about yourself So you like my daughter do you now? Yeah we think she's something else She's her daddy's girl Her mama's world She deserves respect That’s what she'll get Now ain't it son? Y’all run along and have a little fun I'll see you when you get back Probably be up all night Still cleanin' this gun Son, now y'all buckle up and have her back by te- let's say about nine...thirty. Drive safe. |

This was the song that was playing when the funeral procession pulled into the Fort Snelling National Cemetary for my father's funeral:
Epiphany - Staind Your words to me just a whisper Your faces so unclear I try to pay attention Your words just disappear 'Cause its always rainin in my head Forget all the things I should have said So I speak to you in riddles 'cause my words get in my way. I smoke the whole thing to my head and feel it wash away 'cause i can't take anymore of this, I want to come apart. or dig myself a little hole inside your precious heart 'Cause its always raining in my head Forget all the things I should have said I am nothing more than a little boy inside That cries out for attention yet I always try to hide 'Cause I talk to you like children, Though I don't know how I feel But I know I'll do the right thing If the right thing is revealed 'Cause its always raining in my head Forget all the things I should have said |

Time - Pink Floyd
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day You fritter and waste the hours in an off hand way Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town Waiting for someone or something to show you the way Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today And then one day you find ten years have got behind you No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but its sinking And racing around to come up behind you again The sun is the same in the relative way, but youre older Shorter of breath and one day closer to death Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines Hanging on in quiet desperation is the english way The time is gone, the song is over, thought Id something more to say Home, home again I like to be here when I can And when I come home cold and tired Its good to warm my bones beside the fire Far away across the field The tolling of the iron bell Calls the faithful to their knees To hear the softly spoken magic spells |

Linkin Park: What I've Done
In this farewell There’s no blood There’s no alibi ‘Cause I’ve drawn regret From the truth Of a thousand lies So let mercy come And wash away What I’ve done I’ve faced myself To cross out what I’ve become Erase myself And let go of what I’ve done Put to rest What you thought of me Well I cleaned this slate With the hands Of uncertainty So let mercy come And wash away What I’ve done I’ve faced myself To cross out what I’ve become Erase myself And let go of what I’ve done For what I’ve done I’ll start again And whatever pain may come Today this ends I’m forgiving what I’ve done I’ve faced myself To cross out what I’ve become Erase myself And let go of what I’ve done What I’ve done Forgiving what I’ve done

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell, Blue skys from pain. Can you tell a green field From a cold steel rail? A smile from a veil? Do you think you can tell? And did they get you to trade Your heros for ghosts? Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cool breeze? Cold comfort for change? And did you exchange A walk on part in the war For a lead role in a cage? How I wish, how I wish you were here. We're just two lost souls Swimming in a fish bowl, Year after year, Running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears. Wish you were here. |

This one still gets me after a bunch of years.
Oh, to live on Sugar Mountain With the barkers and the colored balloons, You can't be twenty on Sugar Mountain Though you're thinking that you're leaving there too soon, You're leaving there too soon. It's so noisy at the fair But all your friends are there And the candy floss you had And your mother and your dad. Oh, to live on Sugar Mountain With the barkers and the colored balloons, You can't be twenty on Sugar Mountain Though you're thinking that you're leaving there too soon, You're leaving there too soon. There's a girl just down the aisle, Oh, to turn and see her smile. You can hear the words she wrote As you read the hidden note. Oh, to live on Sugar Mountain With the barkers and the colored balloons, You can't be twenty on Sugar Mountain Though you're thinking that you're leaving there too soon, You're leaving there too soon. Now you're underneath the stairs And you're givin' back some glares To the people who you met And it's your first cigarette. Oh, to live on Sugar Mountain With the barkers and the colored balloons, You can't be twenty on Sugar Mountain Though you're thinking that you're leaving there too soon, You're leaving there too soon. Now you say you're leavin' home 'Cause you want to be alone. Ain't it funny how you feel When you're findin' out it's real? Oh, to live on Sugar Mountain With the barkers and the colored balloons, You can't be twenty on Sugar Mountain Though you're thinking that you're leaving there too soon, You're leaving there too soon. Oh, to live on Sugar Mountain with the barkers and the colored balloons, You can't be twenty on Sugar Mountain Though you're thinking that you're leaving there too soon, You're leaving there too soon. |

There are a lot of great songs on this list. Songs that mean something to me. There are also apparently a lot of very somber moments in these songs. Stories that are clearly very personal. The curious part of me would love to know what those stories are. A totally different part of me knows that I don't want to really share my stories so I'm pretty sure most don't either.

Billy Joel - The River of Dreams
That song has haunted me for over 25 years now. My family members keep telling me that it fits me perfectly, as I always seem to be looking/searching for something! http://www.vh1classic.com/view/artis...ms/index.jhtml In the middle of the night I go walking in my sleep From the mountains of faith To the river so deep I must be looking for something Something sacred I lost But the river is wide And it's too hard to cross And even though I know the river is wide I walk down every evening and stand on the shore I try to cross to the opposite side So I can finally find what Ive been looking for In the middle of the night I go walking in my sleep Through the valley of fear To a river so deep Im a searcher for something Taken out of my soul Something I'd never lose Something somebody stole I don't know why I go walking at night But now Im tired and I don't wanna walk anymore Hope it doesnt't't take the rest of my life Until I find what it is Ive been looking for In the middle of the night I go walking in my sleep Through the jungle of doubt To the river so deep I know Im searching for something Something so undefined That it can only be seen By the eyes of the blind In the middle of the night Im not sure about a life after this God knows Ive never been a spiritual man Baptized by the fire, I wade into the river That is running to the promised land In the middle of the night I go walking in my sleep Though the desert of truth To the river so deep We all end in the ocean We all start in the streams Were all carried along By the river of dreams In the middle of the night

Love this thread! It really does give you great insight into the person posting it.
The song that speaks to me probably the most would have to be A Perfect Circle's "3 Libras" "I threw you the obvious And you flew with it on your back A name in your recollection Down among a million same Difficult not to feel a little bit Disappointed and passed over When I look right through, See you naked but oblivious And you don't see me Here I am expecting just a little bit Too much from the wounded But I see, see through it all See through, see you 'Cause I threw you the obvious To see what occurs behind the Eyes of a fallen angel, Eyes of a tragedy Oh well, oh well Apparently nothing, Apparently nothing at all" Love the lyrics to that song. Honorable mention also goes to: Dead Can Dance - "The Wind That Shakes the Barley" Gary Jules - "Mad World" Damien Rice - "The Blower's Daughter" Devotchka - "How it Ends" |

In another life
You might have been a genius In another life You might have been a star In another life Your face might have been perfect In another life You’d drive a better car In another life All your jokes are funny In another life Your heart is free from fear In another life You make a lot of money In this other life Everything is clear In another life You’re always the hero In another life You always win the game In another life No one ever cheats you In another life You never have to change In another life Your friends never desert you In another life You never have to cry In another life No one ever hurts you In this other life Your loved-ones never die But this is the life you have This is the life you have This is the life you have This is the life In another life You’re always the victim In another life You’re always the thief In another life You are always lonely In this other life There is no relief In your real life Treat it like it’s special In your real life Try to be more kind In your real life Think of those that love you In this real life Try to be less blind Living Colour - This is the life, fantastic lyrics, great when you are in time of need, or when you are flying on cloud 9.

A more serious note with this one:
The Mountain, by Steven Curtis Chapman I want to build a house up on this mountain Way up high where the peaceful waters flow To quench my thirsty soul Up on the mountain My faith is strengthened by all that I see You make it easy for me to believe up on the mountain Oh, up on the mountain I would love to live up on this mountain And keep the pain of living life so far away But I know I can't stay Up on the mountain I said I'd go, Lord, wherever You lead For where You are is where I most want to be And I can tell we're headed for the valley My faith is strengthened by all that I've seen So Lord help me remember what You've shown me Up on the mountain You bring me up here on this mountain For me to rest and learn and grow I see the truth up on the mountain And I carry it to the world far below So as I go down to the valley Knowing that You will go with me This is my prayer, Lord Help me to remember what You've shown me Up on the mountain Up on the mountain I cherish these times up on the mountain But I can leave this place because I know Someday You'll take me home to live forever Up on the mountain |

Yes....the theme from Hee Haw sings to me:
Gloom, Despair, and Agony On Me By: Buck Owens and Roy Clark Gloom, despair, and agony on me Deep, dark depression, excessive misery If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all Gloom, despair, and agony on me We figured she was rich, loaded to the hilt And we figured she had class like the Vanderbilts 'Cause we had heard for years how she was so well reared How was we to know they meant the way she was built Gloom, despair, and agony on me Deep, dark depression, excessive misery If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all Gloom, despair, and agony on me ![]() |

One Particular Harbour - Jimmy Buffett
Ia ora te natura E mea arofa teie ao nei Ia ora te natura E mea arofa teie ao nei I know I don't get there often enough But God knows I surely try It's a magic kind of medicine That no doctor could prescribe I used to rule my world from a pay phone Ships out on the sea But now times are rough Oh I got too much stuff I can't explain the likes of me Chorus: But there's this one particular harbor So far but yet so near Where I see the days as they fade away Finally disappear But now I think about the good times Down in the Caribbean sunshine In my younger days I was so bad Laughin' about all the fun we've had I seen enough to feel the world spin Mixin' different oceans meetin' cousins Listen to the drummers and the night sounds Listen to the singers make the world go 'round Ia ora te natura E mea arofa teie ao nei Ia ora te natura E mea arofa teie ao nei Lakes below the mountain Flow into the sea Like oils applied to canvas Oh how they permeate through me But there's this one particular harbor Sheltered from the wind Where the children play on the shore each day And all are safe within A most mysterious calling harbor So far but yet so near Where I can see the day when my hair's full gray And I finally disappear Ia ora te natura E mea arofa teie ao nei Ia ora te natura E mea arofa teie ao nei Ia ora te natura E mea arofa teie ao nei Ia ora te natura E mea arofa teie ao nei Ia ora te natura E mea arofa teie ao nei Ia ora te natura E mea arofa teie ao nei Ia ora te natura E mea arofa teie ao nei
