Re: Odd/Rare Opus X cigars
If those cigars are really worth thousands each, you'd think they would take care of them. They look horrible - all dusty and just strewn about. Maybe that keeps the workers from stealing them...

Re: Odd/Rare Opus X cigars
Only the footballs were ever 'available' (term used loosely) for the auction for charity. All the rest are trials and oddities that would never be available for purchase to anyone. My guess is they had to roll more than just the footballs that were included in the package that was sold and thus leaving those to sit.

Re: Odd/Rare Opus X cigars
Doesn't the Fuente family fund a school of some sort in Dominican? I think I remember reading something at Tampa Sweethearts about charity events where they let go some special cigars to raise money?

Re: Odd/Rare Opus X cigars
Thanks Doug.
I feel better knowing I'm not crazy. I used to get emails from Tampa Sweethearts, and they'd speak about the particular fundraisers. I'm pretty sure that they work some special cigars into little auctions at those events. I remember seeing a followup after an event that highlighted what they had raised, and a particular gentleman in the cigar industry had bid big money on a signed box of something. I might be mashing a couple things together, but I don't read a lot of things cigar related anymore that don't come through here or my email. That was awhile back, too. That compounds the problem.

Re: Odd/Rare Opus X cigars
I'll have to double check next time I'm there, but I'm almost positive they were footballs not the regular eggs and they were in the DE / Liga shelves. Again, I'll check just for the heck of it next time I stop by there.

Re: Odd/Rare Opus X cigars
A B&M by me has football cigars, not sure if they are DE though. They were trying to sell them for the SB. Next time I'm by there, I'll look to see who made them.

Re: Odd/Rare Opus X cigars
The day my friend gave the football to me, he insisted it was intended for four people to smoke. After spending so much time with him and other Fuentes cigarmakers, I respect that opinion, just not sure how one smokes a single large cigar among four people. To expand on this, I actually talked to some of my friends about how we might build something that would allow each of us our own individual smoke with a single cigar. I 100% plan on smoking this football in the next month, for one thing I feel most certain, no cigar built is made to sit in a humidor forever, and this one has been for about 9 years.

As an aside, that football doesn't really appear to be that big and that one person could smoke it. |
