Never shot the .40 but I enjoy shooting my nine.
It is certainly not my Glock 21.
It is certainly not my M&P Shield (by the way, probably the best nine sub compact for me).
What it is...........a great intro gun at a fraction of the cost of the other two I list.
I have put around 600-700 rounds through it, flawlessly, no jams. For $300, no way you can go wrong with it.
I think as long as placed in the proper comparison category (as long as one is not buying a Chevy and expecting a Cadillac) it is a good "bang" for the buck gun.

I have $400.00 to put towards some type of gun. I am not sure what I want.

I want something that will hold it's value......IE. GLOCK

I know $400.00 won't buy anything really, I will probably throw in another $200.00 to make $600.00.

Here are some guns I am thinking of buying.

Subcompact 357. Sig for future CCW.

Ruger SR9C, also for future CCW. Need to look at these a bit deeper.

Ruger Vaquero in 357. Mag. These do NOT hold their value and have a small market.

Rossi ranch hand in either 44 mag or 38/357. Just something fun.

With that said...............has anyone ever shot a 357 Sig?
I have no expierence with the 357 Sig.

Expensive round. Fun to shoot!!! I have a 229 in 40 with a 357sig barrel and I love shooting it. Last time I heard Alameda SO was still using it. Not sure how fun it would be shooting it out of a subcompact though.

Yea, i'm not to sure about it yet. I have heard it's a cannon.

I had a G30, subcompact .45 glock. That thing was like shooting a small frame revolver in 44. Mag.

I want something that won't be to crazy.

I had a vaquero once. It isn't the same model as what I am looking at now.

I really liked it but a couple of things really bugged me about it.

#1. is that it's not made strong enough to handle the hot loads that use to be shot in the older vaqueros.

#2. They do not hold their value at all. I had the gun for about a year, never shot it. I think I paid $575-$625 for it brand new. When I went to sell it, all the more I could get out of it was $475-$500 even though it was BRAND NEW.
I was told there just isn't a market for them anymore. People are looking to buy semi autos more now.

If I bought this one, I would likely shoot it and hang onto this one though. This one has a flatter hammer. I really like the feel of the vaqueros.

I don't think I would use this as a precedence. one will only lose money on guns they chose to sell for less than paid(yes I have done it). It sounds like said buyer had talking(buying) skills, you paid too much in the first place or you were trying to sell/trade it to a gun shop. Buy right, sell right or hold 'em.

There is a very small market for cowboy style revolvers now days.

I tried to sell this gun for over a year to lots of people and all over the internet and I think I settled on $550.00

I did not over pay, I looked at and priced them for quite a while before I actually bought it. $625 was the going rate when I bought mine.

Even now, they are selling for $625 new I believe. It's all how Ruger has the initial price set.

My advise, get a good used one. Stay away from a new one because I guarantee you will lose money 9/10 times.

Yep, sounds like a gun to not buy in the first place especially if one is not going to shoot it. If I get a chance I will get dealer price later just too see how much retail mark up is. I can often wait for specials and get near half price of MSRP on anything that's not the new hot item.

I bought it new about 3-4 years ago I think. Price on it now is cheaper........

Just goes to show they DID NOT hold their value.

What model do you want me to price check then? Was your gun a new model then? I know that was a high point in SASS, single action revolvers were getting good money.(hype)
Theres always bad choices available in firearm buying and this sounds like one of them.My point was you don't loose money until you sell for less than you pay.
Buy right, sell right or hold 'em.

It won't matter to check now, the prices have obviously changed.

When I bought the gun, I believe it had been out for a year or so.

How was I supposed to know it was a bad choice?

They were new, no one knew they would plummet in interest and price.

For me, the only bad choice is to not get it.
Like many things in life, get what you want, when you want it, if you can, enjoy it and when you sell it, as with most things in life, you may likely get less than you paid for it.
Look at the M&P Shield and Springfield XDs.
Folks are paying as much as $200 over suggested retail on Gunbroker.com and Bud's auctions. Heck if they will ever recover that once supply catches up and the hype goes down and they drop well below MSRP.
If you view a gun as a car as opposed to gold, you will never be disappointed and may actually be pleasantly surprised when selling it.
Basically, you shouldn't have any regrets.

For investment, let's all get Anaconda's or Python. Man I really want one.

Like to own carry guns in pairs. It took a little saving up (and the sale of another 9mm autoloader) but I now own a second Springfield Armory EMP. Wasn't really looking but when a shop has a low-miles used one--pretty much unfired best I could tell--and the price is right, well that's why I try to carry swapping material or extra cash when there's a gunshop along the road I'm traveling.
