Re: AJ Fernandez blends
Just learned that CI and cigar.com and CBid, who are prime vendors of AJ's wonderful smokes, are owned by this Euro monarch:

Re: AJ Fernandez blends
Not a fan of AJF. However, I'm intrigued by how prolific he is and by the variety he produces. So I do keep an eye on what he's got his name on.
Add Pinolero to the list. Better than most of the previous ones listed. Looking over that list and considering Pinolero, I'm struck by a bit of an anomaly for me. I generally prefer fuller, peppery, strong cigars. However, of the AJF cigars listed, I'd only recommend his milder blends; RP Sig, Park Avenue, Pinolero, Micro TPB-1 Rob, I haven't had the Park Avenue Maduro, but the connie is a very pleasant cigar. Easy draw, creamy smoke - very good for morning smoke and for offering to new BOTL. As to the discussion about Oliva above, I don't know much about it, but I do think that it is a potentially inaccurate leap to suggest that something made in an Oliva factory should be considered an Oliva product. I believe that nearly all 'new' blenders contract out their production to bigger, established factories until they get big enough to build their own factory. Perdomo, RP, DE, Hansotia, Pete....I believe all started out by having their blends rolled in Oliva, or some other big factories. Or, if not started, then at least moved to moved production to someone else's big factory after small, homegrown production couldn't keep up with demand. It actually gets very very confusing trying to attribute a cigar to someone in particular, since the tobacco may have been grown by Plasencia, blended by AJF, and produced at an Oliva factory. Re: AJ Fernandez blends
La Mia is not made by AJF. La Mia is a cigar" crafted by the tobacco “Dream Team” at Casa Fernandez." I generally love Casa Fernandez cigars and most of them use "Aganorsa tobacco leaf." Aganorsa leaf is used in a lot of cigars and here's a typical selection:
http://www.atlanticcigar.com/Assorte...ler-8-Pack.asp Easy to get confused. Add in a few Don's and we've got ourselves a failure to communicate. |

Add LHC Core to the list. A sleeper smoke brimming with spice. Maybe the first of AJ's ovals.

Re: AJ Fernandez blends
San Miguel went away. label and brand identification (I hear) was too close to Ave Maria's. They were a heck of a nice medium body, full flavor smoke. They are back and now seem to be marketed under Gurkha name. I am sure gurkha snapped up the trademark and who knows where blend will go. For now, I am assuming CI (or Gurkha, or both) are trying to unload old stock. I assume these are the same as the old San Miguel's, but I am on the fence as to picking up a couple bundles on their weekly special.
