Went out to a nice dinner Saturday night, looked behind the bar and they had some very interesting looking bottles so I asked for the whiskey menu. I was surprised how "reasonable" most of the prices were, especially for being a semi fancy spot downtown (other than the $100/oz for pappy 20) so I ended up buying an ounce of William Larue Weller after the meal. It wasn't as life changing as I was hoping, and Tom's going to kill me but I thought it was slightly too hot (I believe 128 proof). I added a splash of water to it which improved it, but based on everything I've heard I thought it was going to be more of an eye opener. They also had GTS for the same price and if I was hanging out longer that would have been my next pour, but the food was fantastic so I bet I could convince Sarah to go again and this time I'll skip the cocktail (old fashioned with ER barrel pick) and go for the straight stuff

Never had the WLW, Ben, but not surprised that you think it may be a little overrated. But I'd still give it a try if I was at a place that served it at a reasonable price. I'll be interested in hearing how the Stagg is when you return.

So did you crack the celebration bottle for the Shrine, or did that get pushed back by the outing?

Come to Denver and I'll buy your first pour

Had a celebratory pour of pappy 12, not a newly opened bottle but haven't had any in a while

I've also been leaning towards the higher proofs these days, but the Eagle Rare was kind of a nice change this weekend, although I was hitting a couple of Bottled in Bond 100 proofers along the way.

Since Sarah bought me the WLW I let her try a taste, she could barely get it to her lips before the ethanol got to her. The only whiskey she's ever really loved was Macallan Rare Cask we got for free at an event a year or two ago, I looked up the ABV and it's 86 proof, no wonder 128 was a bit hot

Went out to another place downtown for dinner last night (restaurant week) and they had a similar whiskey menu as the place over the weekend... but about $10 more per ounce of the good stuff. I got a beer instead and when I got home decided to open up my bottle of Bookers Country Ham. Finally a high proof (124.7) bourbon that I really enjoyed neat, only had a small pour of it but I think I'll be having another after work today

Had another pour of the Bookers last night, loving this bottle. Then made the mistake of having a glass of regular buffalo trace, the 35 proof drop made me feel like I was drinking water, definitely going to "proof up" next time

Opened up a bottle of Early Times BiB yesterday, it was recommended to me to buy if I could find it, finally tracked a few down a couple weeks ago. Very smooth for a 100 proof $22 bottle, able to drink neat with no issues, but nothing too exciting in the flavor department. This will probably be used in cocktails in the future

I was pleasantly surprised at the price point, Ben, didn't think it was bad at all.
