Default Fathers Day Ideas..

So my dad has never smoked a cigar to my knowledge. I want to get him into it with me. I figured for Fathers day I would get a stick to share with him. I don't want to go all out and buy a humi and stuff, in case he doesn't like it. I was thinking something upscale- Opus X or Cohiba, as he smokes cigs, so I am not too worried about over powering him.

What would you guys recommend I should share with him?

What kind of cigarettes does he smoke? Will be a hint to whether he will tend more toward a mild or full.

Hmm, maybe a mild-medium then I'd guess.

I smoke Marlboro Red's and as a result like the full flavor cigars. A friend that smokes ultra lights will only smoke mild cigars. Just a theory but it's proven true for 2 out of 2 cases so far.

My recommendations would be something from Davidoff, Graycliff or Ashton probably. Just about everything I've had from them has been a really smooth mild - low medium experience (they do have some full strength offerings though, check descriptions). You mentioned Opus X so I assume $15 - $20 a stick is fine. If looking in the less than $10 range, I'd say Olivia Connecticut Reserve, or maybe a CAO Gold.

Another line of thought would be to just offer him something you like personally. If you enjoy the Opus or Cohiba, I doubt you'll go wrong there. Maybe bring a couple mild or Medium sticks in case he doesn't like the strong stuff just to show him the range of options out there.

"I smoke these and like them a lot." is a much more personal gift than "Guy123 on the Internet said these rock, so here ya go!"

You can never have too many cigars, they are like an investment in good times.

Good point. Even 2 1/2 months into cigars, I still find myself inhaling every 3 or 4 puffs. 15 years of smoking cigarettes is hard to erase.

Which Opus? If it is a small one I would pass and buy something else. Last think I would want to do is get him sick.

Yeah, but remember you want him to enjoy it, not think WTF. Opus are not a good choice
when you are trying to turn somebody on. I would suggest Padron in the NC range and Bolivar
in the CC range. I do not like Opus, it is true, but I also think they are an acquired taste.
As he has no prior cigar experience that you know of, go for something a bit more
universal.

If he already smokes cigarettes, he's not as likely to get the nicotine sickness. I've yet to even get a mild buzz off any of the cigars I've smoked.

If ya want to be safe, smoke them after a meal. But it should be alright either way.

It's too bad my dad gave up smoking after his heart attack 8 years ago. I'd love to be able to enjoy a cigar with him now and again.

I definately enjoy the flavor. Marlboro's pretty much taste like crap after a good cigar.

How about a CAO La Traviata? That's a nice smoke in my book.
