Re: Songs that speak to you
There are a lot of great songs on this list. Songs that mean something to me. There are also apparently a lot of very somber moments in these songs. Stories that are clearly very personal. The curious part of me would love to know what those stories are. A totally different part of me knows that I don't want to really share my stories so I'm pretty sure most don't either.

And You and I may very well be my No. 1 favorite song of all-time. Definitely the best track on Close to the Edge. Well done.

Billy Joel - The River of Dreams
That song has haunted me for over 25 years now. My family members keep telling me that it fits me perfectly, as I always seem to be looking/searching for something! http://www.vh1classic.com/view/artis...ms/index.jhtml In the middle of the night I go walking in my sleep From the mountains of faith To the river so deep I must be looking for something Something sacred I lost But the river is wide And it's too hard to cross And even though I know the river is wide I walk down every evening and stand on the shore I try to cross to the opposite side So I can finally find what Ive been looking for In the middle of the night I go walking in my sleep Through the valley of fear To a river so deep Im a searcher for something Taken out of my soul Something I'd never lose Something somebody stole I don't know why I go walking at night But now Im tired and I don't wanna walk anymore Hope it doesnt't't take the rest of my life Until I find what it is Ive been looking for In the middle of the night I go walking in my sleep Through the jungle of doubt To the river so deep I know Im searching for something Something so undefined That it can only be seen By the eyes of the blind In the middle of the night Im not sure about a life after this God knows Ive never been a spiritual man Baptized by the fire, I wade into the river That is running to the promised land In the middle of the night I go walking in my sleep Though the desert of truth To the river so deep We all end in the ocean We all start in the streams Were all carried along By the river of dreams In the middle of the night

Re: Songs that speak to you
Love this thread! It really does give you great insight into the person posting it.
The song that speaks to me probably the most would have to be A Perfect Circle's "3 Libras" "I threw you the obvious And you flew with it on your back A name in your recollection Down among a million same Difficult not to feel a little bit Disappointed and passed over When I look right through, See you naked but oblivious And you don't see me Here I am expecting just a little bit Too much from the wounded But I see, see through it all See through, see you 'Cause I threw you the obvious To see what occurs behind the Eyes of a fallen angel, Eyes of a tragedy Oh well, oh well Apparently nothing, Apparently nothing at all" Love the lyrics to that song. Honorable mention also goes to: Dead Can Dance - "The Wind That Shakes the Barley" Gary Jules - "Mad World" Damien Rice - "The Blower's Daughter" Devotchka - "How it Ends" |

In another life
You might have been a genius In another life You might have been a star In another life Your face might have been perfect In another life You’d drive a better car In another life All your jokes are funny In another life Your heart is free from fear In another life You make a lot of money In this other life Everything is clear In another life You’re always the hero In another life You always win the game In another life No one ever cheats you In another life You never have to change In another life Your friends never desert you In another life You never have to cry In another life No one ever hurts you In this other life Your loved-ones never die But this is the life you have This is the life you have This is the life you have This is the life In another life You’re always the victim In another life You’re always the thief In another life You are always lonely In this other life There is no relief In your real life Treat it like it’s special In your real life Try to be more kind In your real life Think of those that love you In this real life Try to be less blind Living Colour - This is the life, fantastic lyrics, great when you are in time of need, or when you are flying on cloud 9.

Re: Songs that speak to you
A more serious note with this one:
The Mountain, by Steven Curtis Chapman I want to build a house up on this mountain Way up high where the peaceful waters flow To quench my thirsty soul Up on the mountain My faith is strengthened by all that I see You make it easy for me to believe up on the mountain Oh, up on the mountain I would love to live up on this mountain And keep the pain of living life so far away But I know I can't stay Up on the mountain I said I'd go, Lord, wherever You lead For where You are is where I most want to be And I can tell we're headed for the valley My faith is strengthened by all that I've seen So Lord help me remember what You've shown me Up on the mountain You bring me up here on this mountain For me to rest and learn and grow I see the truth up on the mountain And I carry it to the world far below So as I go down to the valley Knowing that You will go with me This is my prayer, Lord Help me to remember what You've shown me Up on the mountain Up on the mountain I cherish these times up on the mountain But I can leave this place because I know Someday You'll take me home to live forever Up on the mountain |

Yes....the theme from Hee Haw sings to me:
Gloom, Despair, and Agony On Me By: Buck Owens and Roy Clark Gloom, despair, and agony on me Deep, dark depression, excessive misery If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all Gloom, despair, and agony on me We figured she was rich, loaded to the hilt And we figured she had class like the Vanderbilts 'Cause we had heard for years how she was so well reared How was we to know they meant the way she was built Gloom, despair, and agony on me Deep, dark depression, excessive misery If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all Gloom, despair, and agony on me |

One Particular Harbour - Jimmy Buffett
Ia ora te natura E mea arofa teie ao nei Ia ora te natura E mea arofa teie ao nei I know I don't get there often enough But God knows I surely try It's a magic kind of medicine That no doctor could prescribe I used to rule my world from a pay phone Ships out on the sea But now times are rough Oh I got too much stuff I can't explain the likes of me Chorus: But there's this one particular harbor So far but yet so near Where I see the days as they fade away Finally disappear But now I think about the good times Down in the Caribbean sunshine In my younger days I was so bad Laughin' about all the fun we've had I seen enough to feel the world spin Mixin' different oceans meetin' cousins Listen to the drummers and the night sounds Listen to the singers make the world go 'round Ia ora te natura E mea arofa teie ao nei Ia ora te natura E mea arofa teie ao nei Lakes below the mountain Flow into the sea Like oils applied to canvas Oh how they permeate through me But there's this one particular harbor Sheltered from the wind Where the children play on the shore each day And all are safe within A most mysterious calling harbor So far but yet so near Where I can see the day when my hair's full gray And I finally disappear Ia ora te natura E mea arofa teie ao nei Ia ora te natura E mea arofa teie ao nei Ia ora te natura E mea arofa teie ao nei Ia ora te natura E mea arofa teie ao nei Ia ora te natura E mea arofa teie ao nei Ia ora te natura E mea arofa teie ao nei Ia ora te natura E mea arofa teie ao nei
