Default Padilla Dominus Robusto

Cigar: Padilla Dominus
Wrapper: Nicaraguan Corojo
Binder: Nicaraguan Corojo
Filler: Nicaraguan Corojo
Vitola: Robusto 5x50
Price: $195/box of 24 of CI. Picked mine up as 10 for $40 off joe.

Setting: Garage, 7:30pm, about 50 degrees out, though propane heater is churning along nicely next to me. Pairing with a Peach Snapple.

Pre-light: The cigar is a very nice looking medium brown with smallish veins. The label is pretty fancy with a lion's head on it. The cigar is nicely firm with just a touch of springiness to it. The cigar has that nice light barnyard smell to it and just a tingle of spice from the foot. It cut easily using the Cranial Screw Top Method [sup]TM[/sup] resulting in a slightly firm draw with nice sweet tobacco taste. The cigar lit easily and evenly.

First third: The first few puffs resulted in a good amount of smoke even with the slightly firm draw. The initial flavors were woody and leathery with a slight pepper bite at the back of the tongue and a slightly charred taste to it. The charry taste moved way to the background pretty quickly. Other than the slight bite it's a pretty smooth cigar initially. The ash is nice and firm and compact. The burn line is thin and mostly even. So far it seems pretty medium in body and strength. The finish is pretty light but pleasant.

Second third: Well, the ash held into the second third when I decided to tap it off, leaving a nice glowing cherry. There are some sweet flavors coming into the mix as I got to the second third, can't seem to place them though. The wood and leather continue to dominate. A little past the halfway point the burn got significantly uneven so I had to touch it up. Body and strength are in the medium to full range.

Final third: As I got into the final third the smoke becomes a bit more creamy and full. It ashed again just as reached the final third. The woodiness has gone down but the leather and sweetness remains. The burn has remained even since I touched it up. The body and strenth has moved into the full range and the finish is lingering a bit longer.

Final thoughs: Well, this cigar is supposed to be the strongest in the Padilla line. I'm not sure I get that. Plus the price seems pretty high at msrp, but for the price I paid I really enjoyed this smoke. The flavors got really nice right in the final third. Wish it was that way all the way through, but overall it was a pretty nice smoke.

Liked it: Yes
Reccommend: Yes
Buy again: Yes at joe prices.

Like most Padillas at CI, the price is ridiculously high. They can be had much cheaper at CBid. Glad you got 'em much cheaper.

Thanks for the review. I'll have to be on the lookout for these.

Thanks for the review. I had wanted to try these when they first came out but was hesitant due to how disgusting I found the Padilla Cazadores to be. Those are the only sticks I've ever sent back for a refund. Worst than the Cremosa I got from Bob. I'll need to give the Dominus a try now.

Great review for sure. I was bombed one of these awhile back and have been resting it. I think this review is making me think it is time to break this stick out and delay no more.

Just had one one week OTT. Spot on review! Similar to La Aroma de Cuba. Mine burned perfectly. Would buy for no more than $120 a box.

Smoked this next to My Father Le Bijou and easily preferred the Padilla: smoother, richer and better rolled.

Speaking of CBID! I just won a box of 30 Dominus Perlas ( 4 X 44) for $82!!! Wow, add the $5 shipping and it's still half the CI box price!!!
