Wow. When did Cigar Aficionado start writing rum descriptions? Candied tree fruits...mince tart... Lazarakia... what the hell is all that crap?

A friend recently gifted me a Cruzan Black Strap rum.
Made with molasses & Oh! so good. Definitely recommend this one.

Kelly, I'm not all that familiar with Flor de Cana rums, but I brought a bottle of the 18yr to the Shack this year and wasn't really that impressed to be honest... (that said, it did disappear pretty quick ) I was drinking mostly Diplomatico & Pampero Aniversario at the time and found the FdC 18yr to be rougher and much 'hotter' (for want of a better descriptor) on the palate. I picked mine up locally for a similar price to HTW, but won't be buying it again any time soon. I hope you have a better experience.

A friend turned me on to a sale on the RZ XO, so I figured since Zacapa 23 is my favorite now (along with Centenario), I should try the premium stuff while it's a bargain...hopefully it gets here ny New Years.

I do find the description of flavors on the vendor website rather amusing, although not quite as over the top as the one Mark posted for the Ron Millonario.

Quote:
On the nose, Ron Zacapa XO displays rich notes of toasted oak, burnt caramel, roasted nuts, marzipan and orange peel. Smooth and sweet on the palate, flavors of dark chocolate, dried fruit, and baking spice lead to hints of mango and ginger on the lingering finish.

They have a nice selection of rums there, Tom. I just spent a few minutes perusing and there are a few premium looking rums that look interesting. I need to go to the Ministry and do some research, evidently.

Anyone actually taste the Ron Zacapa XO and can say how it compares to the Ron Zacapa 23 Anos? For my money that's my favorite, and the smoothest of all I think...how does the XO compare?

I can't speak from experience...yet. But I understand it is a little less sweet, and more complex. Hopefully I review it from experience in a few days.

I haven't opened my bottle of the RZ XO yet. Waiting for Tom to show up on the patio.

I like the 23 best, but at 37 to 44 a bottle.....its hard (& $$) to keep at lot of it on hand to drink daily
Zaya 12yr makes a great everyday rum at only about 27 to 33 a bottle

not that I like rum or know what I'm talking about
