Cigar master Avelino Lara died yesterday of complications from thyroid cancer at the age of 88 in his homeland of Havana, Cuba.

I read this earlier. I had a chance to speak with Abel a few weeks ago and he had mentioned that his father was back in Cuba and was sick. Didn't think something like this would happen so soon after I spoke with him. Avelino is a legend in the industry and will be missed.

That's a shame. My wife and I were lucky enough to meet him many years ago in the Bahamas. God rest his soul.
