Just cut the smoke right down the middle. That's what I do. I have doubled my collection of sticks.

It is a cigar cutter. If you have one it should immediately be replaced with one of those cheap black plastic spring loaded cutters with the release button on the side. Should run you between 2-5 bucks if you can find one.
