I absolutely love BMW M series. My dad has a 325xi and I keep trying to convince him to trade it in for an M. Sweet ass ride you had yourself there.

I have owned 9 Bimmers since I bought my 1982 633 in December of 2001.Six days after that I bought it I bought another BMW,a euro 325,and the rest is history. My current toys are an '89 325 cabrio and my 95 M-3,both are mechanically sound and a blast to drive.I constantly get the "come on" from the "leaf blower" boys in the loud-ass jap boxes.Occasionally I will rip a strip off one of them, especially in the '89 cabrio,it is almost 20 years old and none of these guys can believe an old guy like me can pass them on the outside in a curve,or out brake them going into a corner..Sometimes I will torture one of them while I am in the M-3 by giving them the nod at a stoplight,I get very few takers, most of them just look away....

One of my 'to do list' items is to purchase and fully restore (if needed) an 80s M6. I have always loved that car, but hell I have loved almost every M car.

Drove a new '09 M3 (E93) last week...... I must say, It has all of the prior M's beat hands down.
The DSG tranny is simply amazing. It, when set up correctly, can out shift and out think any human trying to operate the six-speed manual.
I know that sounds f'in ignorant if you are a purist, but drive one and your mind will be changed also, as was mine.
I have driven most every M ever made, and this one is uhhhhhhh, nice.

Had the SMG2 in my E46 M3. I gotta tell you that if you havent tracked or ran a mountain with this tranny, then you havent felt the real value of it.

I too have test driven the M3 and M5 and they are beasts

Sorry, M-cars are too rich for my blood (ie - I'm too poor!).

Instead I am working on fixing up an '91 318is (E30). Figure that'll be my toy 'till the M42 engine goes bad. Maybe then a S50/52 engine swap?

Here's my M-series story:

I was driving home on the 55 fwy at 2am in my 2002 camaro Z28 (w/a few mods ) at about 90 mph. I see tail lights ahead in the fast lane so I change lanes. I see the rear end of the car I'm coming up on drop, the race is on! I downshift from 6th to 4th, chirping the tires a little and redline 4th and 5th. I'm gaining on the car ever so slowly when I finally see what I'm up against. A white M5. My excitement builds as I think I'm going to beat an M5 until the damn speed limiter shuts us down at 149mph. Damn that was fast. I've since gotten married, had kids, and begun driving like a grandpa, but still love that story...
