Padron 5000 Maduro
So I forget my Hallie at home while rushing to make the plane on our golf trip this past weekend. Hit the exciting metropolis of Evansville, IN with 0 Cigars.
Fortunately my bus partner has about 10 sticks that get us through the evenings but the course needs cigars. They have a display at the bar and decide ... any port in a storm. In this case Padron 5000 Maduros. Rough looking but well made cigars. Smell very young/barnyard hay like prelight alomost like they were undercured which is wierd for a Maduro. Burned well and put out good volumes of smoke. Flavors were OK but the cigar is a little one dimensional/harsh in that it lacks a smoothness and had a very short finish. The experience was difficult due to constantly forgetting what I was smoking and nasal exhaling to a biting bitter end. Play a hole, get into it forget and ... blam! I think after a while things numbed up and it got less nasty. Had a nice mouth flavor and because of the pace of things lasted on average about an hour and a half. Smoked 6 of them T-S. Not a bad smoke if you remember not to fully exhale them through your nose. Got to the point where 25% nose or so was actually pleasant. Not a complex set of flavors but decent richness and body that peeked through occasionally. Are they 50% as good as the annies and 24th's? Probably if you are into that kind of mathmatical price/flavor comparision. For me, if they were both available I wouldn't buy and smoke these, but that's not fair as they should be compared to cigars priced similarly. Better than the CAO Vinatage Cameroon that I smoked 4 of at the exact same price.

I didn't think I'd ever see a review like this from you again Dave. I hope you're enjoying something good this evening. So how was the golf?

I hope the golf was good at least!
I saw your thread on Thursday, had I FedExed some sticks from here they still wouldn't be in transit haha. I smoke a lot of the 64 and 26's but the whole X000 series gives me a very bitter taste along with the comments you had. Anyways, welcome back! |

Only have smoked the 2000's and 3000's, and have enjoyed the 3's over the 2's. Never have had a 5000...
Yeah, how was the golf anyways?

Glad to hear you atleast found "something" to smoke. I guess when push comes to shove, beggers can't be choosers.
To bad Evansville is 6 hours south of me. I would have gladly came to the rescue if it were closer. |

The Golf? It was brutal. This is a top 25 course for a reason.
122 on Thursday... 54 - 68 Friday got in 4 holes started out par, par, bogey, bogey and then it rained. 122 on Saturday .. 60 -62 Had a few moments (Friday) but for the most part, was not getting off the tee. I'll get it down to the high 90's next time. (sure I will)

Re: Padron 5000 Maduro
For some reason when I read about the forgotten cigars, I thought back to the movie There's Something About Mary. I could just see Klugs playing the part of the little kid and asking, 'Mister, have you seen my Hali?'. Dave, was the Padron better than your experience with the Cremosa?
