Nice knives. I've owned a few CRKTs, but I feel my wallet gasp every time I look at a Leek. Kinda liking that Boker too, sometimes simple does it bet

Many of you guys on here are outdoorsmen.

Let me ask you all.

I have been in the market for a knife for about 4 years now. Obviously I haven't been trying to hard to acquire one.

But, if I were looking for a good $40 dollar knife, with the intent of using it on general backpacking trips either in the Rockies or anywhere else in the world, what would you suggest?

For background, the only "knives" I have right now is a Victorinox Swiss Army Climber (in my first aid kit), and a Leatherman Wave II (on the belt during my treks).

So, I guess I would be looking for a "do it all" knife, but a dedicated knife none the less. I am not a hunter, nor a mercenary so I don't think I need any of the "functions" required for those activities. Just general survival and utility in the backcountry.

I hope this doesn't turn into a full thread-jacking. Please consider PM'ing me instead if it starts looking that way.

Cheers

John

Absolutely nothing wrong with what you have right now.

$40 makes me say Ontario Spec Plus right off the bat...

Simple, functional, and easy on the wallet

USAF Survival

Here's one, a couple $$ cheaper

Same Knife, different vendor

Hope that helps...and Yes, many Soldiers carry those knives.

All I carry is a cutco, basic but it works great. I've got a leatherman mini I leave in the car/truck.

I'm surprised there arent more benchmade or spyderco's listed

Not much of a collection, but they all get used!!

Wolfgang (Mark) gifted me the handsome green Schrade knife (shown in the middle)

The spyderco credit card knife on the right was gifted to me by JaKaach.

The bottom knife (Buckmasters logo) is made in the U.S.A. by Camillus, which is no longer in business unfortunately.

I don't have a camera at the moment but I generally carry a cold steel x2 voyager on me at most times.

A nice 6 inch folder because the 4 inch rule is only for fixed blades
