Not to knock anyone, but why put more than 4 Gb in a PC running Windows XP or Vista 32-bit as the primary OS?
32-bit versions of Windows can only effectively use up to 3120Mb (roughly 3 gigs) due to software limitations (claimed to allow compatibility on older machines), and can be forced into using a full 4Gb via registry changes. Otherwise, the 4th gig is essentially only used by hardware such as shared video memory tasks. Much love to 64-bit OS's for opening that up, but even then Vista was proven to actually SLOW DOWN with more than 16 GB of RAM (inefficient memory use) until Service Pack 1 came out and ended that problem.

My AMD dual 64 bit came with 4 GB RAM and to upgrade ti to 8 GB is $600... So much for cheap RAM. I hope by summer it comes down a lot.
On 64 bit, it seems like it uses twice the RAM of x86...

sweet! I have 2GB in my macbook. This thing is like 4 years old, even before the core 2 duo days, but still trucks for what I need it for. Maybe next year I will get a new macbook, but if this thing is still haulin' good.... I don't think there will be a need.

![]() I just got a new macbook (NOT the unibody, the polycarbonite) and it came with 2gigs of RAM and 120gb HD. I upgraded it to 4gigs of RAM and a 320gb HD. Cost to have apple to do the upgrade - $400 Cost for me to do the upgrade - $120 ![]() PS - if anyone wants the old RAM shoot me a PM. |

That's insane! How long ago was it and who did you get it from? If it is not too late, I would return it. For that much you can get 48GB of RAM lol.

My MacBook says it has 1 GB but supports up to 4.
Will I see that much of a difference that makes it worthwhile? Is it hard to do? Here is what I have. Any help is appreciated.

DO NOT buy from apple though. crucial ram is the best deal I have found.... anyone else can chime in if a current one beats crucial's price.
