Default Meaning of "Cuban" blends

I regularly find non-Cuban blends described as being Cuban derived/influenced, for instance Tatuaje Havana VI and in general EP Carillo. What does this mean? Is it like saying which artists from a prior time have influenced a contemporary artist, such that while the current artist has their own style but one can still hear or see the prior artist's style in their work?

I normally find it a ploy by non-Cuban cigar companies to try to sell more cigars.

99% of all tobacco grown outside of cuba can be traced back to cuban seeds, people were stuffing their socks full of them when they were leaving the island during the revolution. I take it to be a ploy as well, which was very frustrating when working at a cigar shop and having to explain to people that, just because the box has "cuban" on it, they were not actually cuban cigars

I take it to mean that the blender has tried to replicate Cuban flavors. It's also a marketing ploy.

If that's the case, they're failing miserably.

Good NC cigars can sell on their own merit; not as a wanna be Cuban cigar

Agreed! A great NC cigar is something that embraces what it is instead of attempting to be a Cuban cigar. Whenever they're trying to blend and make the best cigar possible everyone wins. People who want to see Springsteen most certainly do not want a cover band but if that cover band decides to write and perform their own original material.......well then I'm listening and in the end it's just a better product even if it sucks after all is said and done. It's better to suck on your own terms than attempting to suck at imitation.

Sorry I like to drown in metaphor when I've had a couple bourbons
