Dumb question
Ok. Been wanting to ask this for a while but it is really stupid sounding
Does anyone else get the hiccups when smoking a pipe? Every now and then I get a full blown attack of the hiccups I know that swallowing air can cause hiccups but why with pipe smoking and not a cigar? And I cannot figure out what I'm doing differently when I get them Ok. You all have permission to have a good ROTFLMAO at my expense

Re: Dumb question
It has happened to me. You're taking in air along with the smoke. I think it happens more often when you take in long draws as with a cigar or puff constantly vs taking a couple puffs and taking a short rest. Not a dumb question at all!

Re: Dumb question
No, I haven't had it happen. BUT, I have a buddy who has the same problem.

Re: Dumb question
Chappy I found this:
"The respiratory and the circulatory system are most affected by tobacco use. Once in the bloodstream, nicotine activates cholinergic receptors. These receptors are usually activated by the neurotransmitter, acetylcholine, which is produced in the brain and by neurons in the nervous system. Acetylcholine and its receptors are involved in many functions; including muscle movement, breathing, heart rate, learning, and memory. Nicotine's chemical makeup is similar to the Acetylcholine and therefore able to activate the receptors. When nicotine gets into the brain, it attaches to acetylcholine receptors and mimics the actions of acetylcholine. But, it can disrupt the normal functioning of the nervous system where information adjusts the outgoing messages that control contraction or changing in breathing patterns, resulting in a hiccup." http://www.helium.com/items/1395150-...-cause-hiccups

Re: Dumb question
Funny how cigars don't do it though

Re: Dumb question
True. Article also mentions swallowing too much air. Could be that or could be a combo of the two.

Re: Dumb question
Try this...just lightly sip - don't take deep or long draws. Also serves to give better flavor.
