Just got an email from my Mom telling me that they had to put down my dog. She was almost 18 years old and I've had her all her life. She will be greatly missed. Its been a pretty crappy week. First my wife's dog had to be put down, then I got really sick Monday, then my dog had to be put down today. I'm gonna go get really really drunk tonight and when I feel better from being sick, I'm going to smoke a really good cigar.

I say skip getting drunk and go straight for the cigar. Your dog would want it that way. Have a drink or two anyway. I recently lost the best dog I ever had. He was the best right to the end. Then I had to watch my son-in-law's boyhood dog die and bury it with him. They sure don't live long enough but they are so rewarding. So tough to say goodbye to them.

If I wasn't so sick(upper respiratory infection) I would be out enjoying my greatest cigar. But as it stands right now(i can't taste or smell anything) I'm just going to get drunk and try to forget everything for tonight. Maybe this weekend I'll be able to enjoy a great cigar in her honor.

Here is the story of our life together: One day when I was just a young child, maybe 8 or 9 years old, a white F-150 came driving down my street while my friends and I were playing in my drive way, and the man driving the truck threw a new born puppy out of the drives side window. She landed at my feet, and there she stayed until I left for the Air Force when I was 20 years old. I got to spend 11-12 years with her every day and then it was only 2-3 times a year for the last 6 years. I'm so glad that she's not in pain anymore and that she doesn't have to wander around deaf and blind, but I really do miss her and I will always remember her.

Sorry to hear about this Earl. 18 years is a good long life for a dog. Cherish the memories you have together.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Our Russian Blue cat, Deli, passed away two years ago and I'm still not over it.

Sorry to hear. Lost a 14 yr old two years ago and yet to get over it. Now wondering when my soon to be 15 yr old no longer be around. Only a dog owner/dog lover can truly understand the loss. Incredible friends.

I am sorry for your loss. Our dogs are members of our family and we cherish them. I lost one of my dogs last June. Our other dog is 15 and still going strong (except for being totally deaf )

I have read your posts a few times and then moved on to another trying to avoid adding on. About a year ago we lost 3 of our 5 dogs - one to Lyme disease (Tango), one to Lupus (Nida) and Hope the Wonder Dog to her 3rd stomach surgery. As many have said they are the best of friends and even family for many of us - you go to great lengths to make them comfortable and never want to give anything but your all. As Carlos says regarding his family, mine has yet to get over it and never really will however not a day goes by that I don't laugh or smile at an old chew toy or dirty seat belt because it reminds me of them. Truly, man's best friend... Posted via Mobile Device |
