Default Need Suggestions?

Hi! I need some direction and guidance, I want to get some cigars as a gift.

I know nothing about Cigars..

I have seen him smoke Liga Privada Robustos

All I know is that he told my cousin his preference in cuban cigars were Bolivar Robustos and then suggested he may like Avo Robusto

This is really all I can say about his preferences, can anyone give me some direction on what to buy him? the last time I got a glance in his humidor there appeared to be several different cigars in there. ?

Thanks for any guidance..

How often have you seen him smoke the Liga Privadas?

I would go that route. Liga Privada No. 9, Flying Pig, T52, etc.

I can't fault the AVO Robusto. Really, I can't fault ANY AVO!!!

Look for Tatuaje cigars, maybe close to the flavor profiles of several of the Ligas. Can't tell where you are located. Assuming you are in the USA, forget about Cubans. Illegal to deal in them here. Any person, or store in the USA that offers to sell you a cigar they say is Cuban, forget it; high probability they are fakes. Not a scene for a novice to get into.

What is your budget? If it's in the $40-50 range, this may be a good choice. http://www.famous-smoke.com/avo+take...ars/item+27871 They are all considered robustos.

Is your budget higher than that?

I would think most cigar shops offer some kind of gift certificate, I believe most online retailers do too. I know it's not as personal as giving the actual cigars, but I know I'd be just as happy with a GC, especially if it's someone that doesn't know much about them.

We do not have a cigar shop nearby..he knows plenty about cigars, it is me who knows nothing. I'll try to peep in his humidor when he isn't paying attention and see if there is anything else.. and I'd really rather have some nice cigars in his stocking than just the certificate...

Thanks for your input so far.. I may get the Avo's suggested along with some that I know he smokes as well so he'll have what he likes and something new to try as well.

What about these samplers that have all sorts of cigars in them? Are they appreciated and how do you go about choosing? .. the ones that say 90 plus rated? .. find one that is just robustos? .. or am I better off picking one brand?

Sounds like your on Thompson, I would stay away from there for samplers as they tend to throw some not so good cigars in with a few good ones. I usually buy from Cigarbid, they have better prices. Here is an AVO 5-pack sampler they have on freefall right now. I usually wait once or twice and let it reset to see how low it will go on average and then pull the trigger.

If he likes Liga Privada he would also likely enjoy Tatuaje, Viaje, Illusione to name a few popular premium brands that are hot right now.

Just a suggestion that I've been looking at myself. This year's 'top' releases, including the Liga Privada Undercrown.

I do have a dumb question though.. If I order them now do I need to store them some special way until Christmas when they can be put in his humidor?

Thanks?

You could put them in an airtight Tupperware with some hydration packs. A ziplock would be okay too.

Maybe you can get something like this as a single from your local b&m:

This. Being that Xmas is only a couple weeks away, by the time they arrive you'll be fine just leaving them in their ziplock bag. From there he will know what to do judging by what you've stated previously. Or you could go the extra mile and get a humidification pillow as shown above.

For what it's worth, my buddy bought that sampler and he likes it. I've really been wanting to try the Undercrown and I'm sure 99% of the board would agree it's a great smoke.
