5 Vegas Miami Knuckle & smokes like it
has anyone had any of these? Well I have, I got a fiver from the devil site basically to try the shape 4x60.
I had never had a nub and I figured since I know I like the Miami blend I shouldn't be too dissatisfied if i don't like it and man I cant believe how much I don't. I like every other cigar vitola in this line but the thing burned like crap the ash would not hold (huge ash drops all over me) and it even tasted different. The only thing i can say that was good about this smoke is the fact it has a great draw. Personally this has put me off from buying a nub now for sure. I prefer 44-50 corona gordas being my fav. All i can say is I dont like all these new Fat cigars I am not going to argue its just my 2 cents Everyone goes through fazes and even I was on a LGC Serie R big gage run for a while but now that I enjoy the wrappers and there are more Corojos on the market I tend to like that flavor the most. This is all opinion here so go ahead and share yours on the subject. I would love to hear a nub lovers opinion or even more someone who loves the knuckle. Also I would like to ask those of you big gage smokers do you Punch or cut? I have tried both with the knuckle and although i do not normally punch cigars (pretty much never but i have one on my key chain for emergency's.) I have found that the punch seams to help the burn. I think since the smoke is being drawn through the very center makes the burn stay straight as with a guillotine cut mine always burned terribly. Thats my take on the cigar whats yours? |

Sorry you had a bad experience. Hopefully you'll try these again at some point. The main reason I say this is because I have had several of these and love 'em! I thought they had a slight pepper flavor right away that really picked up at the halfway point and turned into a strong full bodied smoke with some real spice. It stayed cool the whole way down and never had a real problem with the ash. It held on for a good inch and had to tap it off because I could tell it would fall at any moment.
As for the nub... if the ash is an issue, the nub stand is true to it's word. Nubs are okay. I say this every time anyone asks about the nub, but their Connecticut cigar is one of the best tasting connie cigars I've had. I will punch the nub occasionally since the large rounded cap nub is slightly too big for my Palio, but the smaller rounded cap or the Torp I cut. either way I've never had to correct the burn on a nub that I can recall. |

I did not, nor will I buy the Knuckle...nothing against those who do...I just died a little on the inside when I found out that there existed a Pepin-blended "Nub"....

I have had a the 5 Vegas Miami Knuckle and it was ok. I don't like big ring gauges. I also do not like to use a punch.

Re: 5 Vegas Miami Knuckle & smokes like it
Well crap I think I have 12 of these in the Vino as of writing this. I'll give em a run though, money is already gone I'm glad there was a bit of positive note about these guys.
I tried a Nub this last weekend... Can't say I was impressed. It was one of those that ya wouldn't mind if it burned out just so you could move on, but not horrible enough to pitch it across the yard. Still have a couple of these too so I may come back later with a different response but I'm not terribly hopeful. I'm not sure if I like the larger RG. Still too new to find my cigar groove, so it's try everything and anything Chris |

Re: 5 Vegas Miami Knuckle & smokes like it
I believe the census on this is that the knuckle is the worst vitola in the miami line I at one time has a 12 flight sampler with all vitolas and even tried the Miami made toro shaggy foot (best of the line) and I enjoy them all but the knuckle is a whole different monster.
On another note i had my first Camancho Corojo and even though i am not a fan of honduran smokes this thing rocks. I am smoking it currently its an 11/18 and man is it up my alley. Now on a completely different note. I recently found a brand new B&M 20 min away from my house that has EVERY CIGAR I ASKED full tat line full illusione full everything! Tomorrow I'm gonna go score some Oliva V Maduros Cant wait! I hate California prices but i love this place. If anyone is dieing to try a hard to find cigar (I'm talking everything available non vintage) Send me a Pm and ill Get it for you. I don't have the money so you'll have to pay shipping and the price. I am only offering to thoes who are having trouble finding a cigar you want to try. If you want to know CA prices and you don't live here its basically 2 times MSRP first extra 50% going to tax other 50% going to the B&Ms profits. Price example Partagas 160 Sig Series $32.00 a stick. I am not going to advertise but if you live in north San Diego county and you don't already know pm me. If i get any Pms Ill wait till i get a few requests then ill either call to check price and get back to you or i can just get it if you dont care. I dont have the money to do anything but get them for you you will have to pay the shipping and price. I forgot to look for Tat Blacks so Ill find out fo you guys today. I will do this depending on the Pms I receive. If i get to many (i dont think i will) ill have to do it in batches as I dont have the funds at the moment for large amounts of cigars. They also sell everything they have in boxes but they are like i said 2 times what you'll find online the only thing is they are in stock (95%) of the time. He must have a great connection cause he said he can also order anything you want. This is already too long of a post so in all god luck and if you like 5 Vegas Miami don't buy the knuckle. |

Re: 5 Vegas Miami Knuckle & smokes like it
I had one DPG firecracker I recieved in a blind trade, and really enjoyed it and am looking forward to another... it was nothing like a NuB, smaller RG. More like a sawed-off Generoso, a quickie with a slightly darker wrapper mmmmm... and I usually dig CG's, not a huge ring-gauge guy.
I saw the Miami Knuckle on Joe's Cigar today for super-cheap, and almost pulled the trigger but after reading this thread held off...

Re: 5 Vegas Miami Knuckle & smokes like it
I don't dig Miamis or Nubs, so the Knuckle wouldn't be for me I suppose. The largest ring guage I enjoy is 52, and that's limited to torpedos. I enjoy a [proper] robusto now and then, but if the blend comes in a [proper] corona gorda size, I'll go for it every time. I have 52-54 ring guage cigars and only smoke them because they're there to smoke. It's uncomfortable. 42-50 ring guage is right up my alley. And I punch everything. Cutting has a strange mouth-feel.

Re: 5 Vegas Miami Knuckle & smokes like it
I got a 5'er of these from the devil. I smoked one right off the truck. It burned okay, but the RG was just too big. I'll hold off further judgment until I smoke another one after they've had a month or two to rest in the humi.

Re: 5 Vegas Miami Knuckle & smokes like it
I got 12 of those puppies at the 'make an offer' on CI, and from all the Pepin smokes I had this was by far the least one. But I don't blame the size, as the bigger 5 vegas Miami I got from the DPG sampler isn't a favorite of mine either, even though I am a Pepin whore.

These just never appealed to me. I like the regular sizes in the Miami's, especially the torpedo.

Re: 5 Vegas Miami Knuckle & smokes like it
I also really like the Miami line, especially the petite corona. I got in on the cbid deal for the Knuckles and, after smoking two, am not impressed. I'll let them rest for awhile and see if they improve.
