Thank you for all your help guys, but I am refilling the torch just fine. The thing just spits out butane all over the place despite a snug fit on the valve and a straight and accurate push when trying to refill. The torch does not want to know anything. Now, the lighter also stutters when trying to light stuff. It spits bursts of flames everywhere.

Wish I could help you Carlo, but it sounds like you're doing everything right. The times my lighters have sputtered they needed a purge but you already tried that. Can you return it for a replacement?
