on the benefits of being first
an oldie but a goodie
A young man was out duck hunting one day. He manged to shoot a duck, but it fell on to private property. Not to be dissuaded, he hopped the fence to get his duck. The property owner came running and yelling. He said that since the duck was on his property, it was his duck. The hunter, naturally, claimed it was his. The old property owner was pretty peeved at the young hunter, so he told him that they'd settle it based on who was the toughest. "We each take turns", he said, "where first I kick you in the groin and then you kick me until one of us gives in." Not wanting to lose his duck, the hunter agreed. The old man kicked the young hunter pretty hard and it was a good 10 minutes before he could stand or take a normal breath. Finally, he announced it was his turn. The old man said, "you can have the duck." Moral of the story, sometimes it is best to go first.
