Default New World Cameroon Churchill

New World Cameroon Churchill. Cameroon wrappers have a very specific flavor profile. Spicy, savory and herbal. There is even a difference between African Cameroon and Cameroon grown in the Caribbean. A.J. Fernandez did not reveal whether the Cameroon wrapper used for his latest New World creation is true African Cameroon or local Cameroon. But seeing A.J. Fernandez using Cameroon tobacco caused a bit of excitement at the Ministry of Cigars office. The cigars feature filler and binder tobaccos from Fernandez’s own farms in Nicaragua. As stated before, the origin of Cameroon has not been revealed by the company.

The New World Series came to life in 2014. That’s when industry veteran Ismael Fernandez retired after 17 years from his position at Plasencia Cigars. He then joined his son Abdel. Together they blended the New World line. That became such a success that a New World Connecticut followed in 2015. And then the New World Puro Especial showed up in 2017. Last winter, Fernandez introduced New World Cameroon. The box-pressed cigars are available as a Petit Lancero, Short Robusto, Corona, Robusto, Toro, Torpedo, and Churchill. For this review, we smoked the 7×48 New World Cameroon Churchill

THE REVIEW

The ring is the same New World ring as the other lines, yet with a green edge instead of a red edge. Add that to the red letters on the secondary ring, and the yellow gold and you got yourself an African theme. Most African countries use red, green and yellow in their flag. The wrapper looks amazing for a Cameroon wrapper. Usually, Cameroon is a brittle and dry looking wrapper, due to the thin leaves. Yet this wrapper is evenly colored and smooth, although a bit dry. The aroma is quite strong and smells like dried wood and charcoal.

The cold draw is perfect. The flavor of the cold draw is plain and pure raw, well fermented, tobacco. Once lit, the flavors are licorice, tobacco, and leather before the signature Cameroon spice and green herbs show up. It all comes with coffee, hay, and pepper. There’s also some faint softwood, think pine, aroma. The mouthfeel is mildly creamy. After a third, the mouthfeel turns dry. The flavors are a mixture of spices and herbs, with some citrus and sweetness. The sweetness has the reminiscence of milk chocolate. The final third starts with pepper, oak, herbs and dark roast coffee. The pepper picks up and becomes the dominant flavor. Near the end, the licorice returns and the cigar makes a full circle.

The draw is perfect. The light-colored ash is coarse though. The burn is flawless and the smoke is thick. This cigar is medium-full bodied, medium-full flavored. It has that typical Cameroon spice and herb profile which I love. The smoke time is two hours and twenty-five minutes.

Strength: medium-full
Flavor: medium-full
