Tatuaje RC Series No.1
At the Intertabac trade show, which is held in Dortmund, Germany every third weekend of September, Pete Johnson (Tatuaje Cigars) released a new series of cigars. The Tatuaje RC series. And while the name may not be new, as Tatuaje has had two RC cigars on the market for over a decade, these are brand new, with a new blend and a different shape.
The original RC series, where RC stands for Retro Cuban, are Diadema shaped cigars with a length of 184 mm or 233 mm and come wrapped with the bottom half of the cigar in silver paper. The new, Europe exclusive, RC series are parejo style cigars in the sizes RC No. 1 4 3/4 x 52, No.2 5 5/8 x 54, and RC No.3 6 1/2 x 56) without the silver paper wrapping. Name: Tatuaje RC Country: Nicaragua Factory: My Father Cigars SA Size: 4 3/4×52 Vitola: Robusto Wrapper: Ecuador Habano Binder: Nicaragua Filler: Nicaragua Price: € 12,00 (The Netherlands) Cutter: Xikar X2 Lighter: single flame Smoke conditions: indoors with ventilator Smoke time: 1:35 Purchased at Cigaragua This is a great looking cigar with a triple cap and a flag tail. The wrapper is nice and oily with a velvet touch. The construction doesn’t have noticeable soft spots or plugs. The aroma is medium strong, the smell is that of a barnyard and wood. The double rings clash a bit, the top ring is the thin Tatuaje ring with the fleur de lis, in brown, but the secondary ring is the colorful, white, red and blue ring that Tatuaje uses on other cigars. And they don’t match. The cold draw is easy, a bit loose, with a spicy raw tobacco flavor and a hint of marzipan. The first puffs are earthy, with pepper, coffee and green herbs which transform into wood, leather and marzipan sweetness. The second thirds has strong leather notes with oak, pepper and still that marzipan sweetness. The halfway point gives wood with grass, hay and citrus acidity. The leather flavor moved to the background. The final third has a strong chili pepper, something that’s classic Nicaraguan, with walnuts. The finale has a toasty wood flavor and that strong pepper. The draw is a bit loose but not too loose to be an issue. The burn needed a few corrections. The smoke is thick and there is plenty of it. The ash is beautiful and firm enough. Strength: Medium-full Flavor: Full For the final score with a scientific diagram, a video and pictures, go to: https://ministryofcigars.com/tatuaje-rc-series-no-1/
