Default South Florida Shooting Club / Wait to you see these pictures !!!

I'm not sure if Dick Cheney or Donald Trump shoot sporting clays, but if they do they'd feel right at home at the South Florida Shooting Club in Palm City, FL.

When I say they spared no expense, I mean THEY SPARED NO EXPENSE.

This place is huge, luxurious, and private. Luckily they are open to the public for their monthly tournaments.

I had the good fortune of squadding with Bob Sowinski. Dr & Mrs Beck, and Steve (the gunsmith) Fisher.

After a slight GPS problem (the club is actually 9 miles WEST of the Turnpike, not East) I checked in, met up with my squad, and headed to their 5-stand to shoot a few warm-up targets.

Doug Vine runs the club, so I knew the targets would be good. I won't lie to you, some of them were tough, not stupid, but challenging, real challenging. No short windows or vision tests, just targets you had to really look at.

He made good use of true pairs. Throwing two relatively straight forward birds, but the fact that they were in a true pair meant you had to either shoot fast, or shoot one of the birds out of the sweet spot.

Fortunately Dr Beck gave me the tip to shoot the true pairs backwards, and that really helped out.

I ended up with a 74 which was good enough for 4th place in B class (or 2nd in A or AA). The funny thing is that when I looked at my score card, I broke the first pair on 12 out of 14 stations we shoot. Why didn't I just keep doing that for the rest of the station

Brian Du Quesnay took HOA with an 88 (I told you they were challenging targets). A few guys in the parking lot said they thought the targets were actually better than they had shot at the Nationals. That was the funny thing, they didn't "look" that tough

If you missed this month's tournament, don't worry, they've got a bunch more planned, as well as the 2013 US FITASC Grand Prix in February.

Put it on your schedule, I did.
