Need help, Is this GBD New Standard Pre-Comoy's Merger or not?
Hello Gents,
I have an individual challenging one of my pipes for sale on ebay, and I wanted to reach out to your knowledge. Here is my listing: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...e=STRK:MESE:IT The individual is another seller of pipes, and seems to do post some nice pipes, so I assume he knows what he speaks of. However all the research I have done on GBD pipes points to my pipe being pre-comoy's merger. He claims my pipe is not pre-merger, saying: "GBD and Comoy merged in 1960 when production of both companies was moved into the Homerton Plant by Jacques Cole. The GBD New Standard was introduced in the 1970s." My information tyells me that the GBD Comoy's merger occurred around 1981. Also, pre-merger pipes had the "LONDON ENGLAND" in a horizontal stamp (like mine) where as post-merger pipes had the stamp in a circular fashion. Also, the metal rondelle was discontinued and the "GBD" was painted on the stem after the merger, mine has the GBD rondelle. My info has come from various sources, but the majority came from pipedia here: http://pipedia.org/index.php?title=GBD I know we have some of the greatest minds for pipes on here. So, is there something that I don't know about here? |
