Liga Privada L40 lancero *pre-release*
I love Liga Privada, both the #9 and the T52 blends. Both made it into my personal top 25 of best cigars of 2010 and I would surprise me if Liga Privada didn't make it in the top 25 of 2011 too. As a fan, I was thrilled when I heard the news that Drew Estate was working on more Liga Privada blends, one of them being the L40, which would come out with a lancero. My heart jumped when I got a text message from the Dutch distributer, who was in Nicaragua visiting some factories at the time, that he got me a fresh rolled L40 lancero.
The cigar is a bit crooked, oval shaped and has no band, but I don't care. The wrapper is dark, oily and wrinkled. The construction feels good and I smell straw and leather. The predraw is fine and reminds me of tobacco and green tea. I taste coffee and an earthy flavor with pepper and toast. After half an inch I taste dry herbs with some wood and chocolate. After an inch the chocolate becomes a bit stronger After a third the chocolate turns dark, flavor wise and stronger, just like I expect from a Liga Privada. Halfway I taste a nice dark chocolate with some herbs. The flavors just go on and on while the herbs slowly become the main flavor. This cigar comes five minutes short to be a two hour smoke. The draw and the burn are great. The smoke is plentiful and thick. The gray ash is firm. This cigar is full flavored and medium to full bodied. Would I buy this cigar again? I can't wait till this cigar is commercially available Appearance: 7 / 10 Construction: 8 / 10 Draw: 8 / 10 Burn: 8 / 10 Smoke & ash: 8 / 10 Aroma first part: 8 / 10 Aroma second part: 8 / 10 Aroma third part: 8 / 10
