Default Old Henry maduro toro

These Old Henry cigars are a Holts exclusive made by Don Pepin Garcia and I got myself a sampler of these cigars when I was in Philadelphia on my east coast road trip in may 2009. I smoked almost all from the sampler without doing a review, so my last 6x50 Old Henry maduro toro that I had stuffed in my humidor was the one that would be reviewed, and here it is.

The wrapper is nice, dark, smooth, leathery, shiny and oily with a few veins. This is a manly, bad ass looking cigar with a band that makes it even look more tough. The bulldog on the band is Old Henry, the dog who this cigar is named after. I smell a pretty strong barnyard smell. The construction feels good. The predraw is fine and leaves a raisin and pepper flavor on my palate. When I tried to punch the cigar I noticed that the wrapper is quite thick.

I taste a strong and peppery coffee flavor with an unrecognizable maduro sweetness. After an inch I also taste chocolate, while the pepper becomes a little less strong.

Right before I reach halfway I also taste some herbs with the coffee, chocolate and earth flavors. After two thirds the main flavors are the earth flavor with some herbs.

This cigar had a smoke time of an hour and fifteen minutes. I got a lot of thick gray smoke. The draw is great, just like the burn, which is straight like an arrow. The ash is dark and reasonable firm. This cigar is full flavored and full bodied and gave me a nice flame when I purged it.

Would I buy this cigar again? Yes, I need to order some soon.
