STEAM and Fallout 3 question

Anyone else use STEAM to download games? If so, have you used the game backup to save off to disc.

1. Saving $10 sounds good to me.

2. I would really like a stand alone save of the dload. Not sure if that's possible to save off.

3. I did see teh STEAM backup option that saves to disc, but STEAM must be loaded. I might not like STEAM in the future so a more stand alone backup would be prefered.
