Default Some sad news...

You dog owners will understand especially if you've been fortunate enough to have had a dog who protects and serves.

SALT LAKE CITY — A K9 officer with the Utah Highway Patrol was killed Friday.

The dog, an 11-year-old Belgian Malinois named Tank, was on duty with his handler of four years Friday. When the UHP officer stopped on the shoulder of eastbound I-80 to give Tank a routine break, the dog took off, and then was struck by a semitruck.

Tank's handler said it was "uncharacteristic" for the dog to run off like he had.
