I don't watch a lot of anime because I think a lot of it is just derivative. But there isn't enough you can say about how well done Akira was. I still watch that all the time. Ninja Scroll and Cowboy Bebop are good, as noted by other people. Princess Mononoke was kinda cool (but a little hippyish). For a really interesting approach to animation check out A Scanner Darkly, starring Keanu Reeves and Robert Downey Jr. A lot of people are skeptical until they finally see it...Then again, the source material was written by Philip K Dick and he really didn't ever do anything that sucked. here's a list of the Top 100 Animated Films.
