Nub San Andres maduro
The Studio Tobac sampler contains a 4½x64 Nub San Andreas maduro. Now you might think "what's new, we already know a nub maduro". Well, what's new is the wrapper. The regular Nub maduro has a Connecticut broadleaf Brazilian wrapper and this cigar is wrapped in a Mexican San Andreas maduro wrapper.
The wrapper is very dark, almost black even. The wrapper looks dry and leathery with a few veins. It looks a bit sloppy wrapped. The construction feels good. I smell a strong and bit acidic straw. The predraw is fine and I taste some raisin. I taste wood, soil and coffee, the flavors are well balanced, and I taste some dark chocolate on the background. The chocolate becomes stronger and a little pepper is added. Wood is still the main flavor though. The coffee and soil have disappeared. The soil returns quickly though, a bit muddy this time and only in the aftertaste. After a third I taste some honey with citrus and wood. Halfway I taste wood again with some herbs. The citrus and honey are gone. After two thirds I taste a sweet nut flavor with some herbs. The sweetness loses most of its flavor quickly though. This cigar has a smoke time of an hour and forty minutes. The draw is great. The smoke starts out really thin and only gets a little bit better, but the light colored ash is coarse but firm and the firmness of the ash prevents me from giving the 'smoke & ash' a grade lower than 7/10. Unfortunately I can't do a nub stand, as the ash isn't even and the cigar won't stand up straight. The burn is fantastic. This cigar is full flavored and full bodied. Would I buy this cigar again? I am not a nub fan, but I loved this one, just like the barberpole. One of the Nubs I love needs to become a regular production cigar. Appearance: 8 / 10 Construction: 8 / 10 Draw: 8 / 10 Burn: 8 / 10 Smoke & ash: 7 / 10 Aroma first part: 8 / 10 Aroma second part: 8 / 10 Aroma third part: 8 / 10
