La Reloba selection Sumatra robusto
La Reloba is one of the latest addition to the portfolio of My Father cigars and the original release contained two lines, the Habano with a red band and the Sumatra with a yellow band. When I was in Florida last november I bought a few of each and it's time to review them. I picked the Sumatra robusto, a 5x50 cigar for the first review of the La Reloba line.
The cellophane wrapped cigar has an oily wrapper with a few veins. The band looks cool and the cigar has a mild barnyard smell. The construction feels good and the predraw is fine. I taste tobacco. I taste pepper and soil with some herbs. The flavors are dry and spicy. After half an inch I taste dry herbs. The herbs taste Indonesian to me, it tastes a bit like a Dutch shortfiller dry cigar where a lot of Indonesian tobacco is used for, but with a Caribbean longfiller twist. I also taste some sweetness. After a third I taste wood, herbs and some sweetness although the sweetness disappears almost immediately. Halfway I taste some chocolate with the wood and the herbs. After two thirds I also taste some sweet nutmeg. Near the turning point the cigar gets spicy again. The smoke time of this cigar is little over an hour. The draw is good and I get a lot of thick smoke. The burn is good too and the light colored ash is firm. This cigar is full flavored and medium to full bodied. Would I buy this cigar again? I've had better cigars from My Father, I still liked it though. Appearance: 8 / 10 Construction: 8 / 10 Draw: 8 / 10 Burn: 7 / 10 Smoke & ash: 8 / 10 Aroma first part: 7 / 10 Aroma second part: 7 / 10 Aroma third part: 7 / 10
