like a car dealership employee fired.

DALLAS (AP) — A man fired from a Texas auto dealership used an Internet service to remotely disable ignitions and set off car horns of more than 100 vehicles sold at his old workplace, police said Wednesday.

Nothing too harsh, but I agree. He deserves to pay for the consequences of his actions.

Too many people today think that privileges are rights. It is not a right to work, drive a car, etc. You have to earn those privileges and if you interfere with someone else you need to pay for it.

I just find it creepy that this was even possible. This makes me think of Skynet capability.

The Texas Auto Center dealership in Austin installs GPS devices that can prevent cars from starting. The system is used to repossess cars when buyers are overdue on payments, said Jeremy Norton, a controller at the dealership where Ramos-Lopez worked. Car horns can be activated when repo agents go to collect vehicles and believe the owners are hiding them.
This was most likely one of those Buy Here, Pay, Here places that sell used cars to people with no credit. I know they use systems like this to make sure that people actually make their payments. So if you buy you're car from a reputable dealership or a private sale you shouldn't have to worry.

Picture a commercial where your car is stolen and a citizen calls a private company that is allied with the government and they locate them driving your car and shut it down.

Then picture a government that is corrupt with back room bribes, under the table deals, blind self-interest, etc. and controls every facet of your existence, and can force you to do things the people do not support, yet the government feels "it is in your best interest."

The first part has happened.

The second part seems to be in process pretty well.

Any car with the OnStar style GPS system built in can have this done to it whether it's active or not.

Somewhat akin to the "Stupid Switch" I have been envisioning for the drivers of the cars that perform the bonehead driving maneuvers driving next to you every day.

Any car can have this system. I have one on my car. Will get one for the truck shortly. Outside of Onstar no manufacturer has a system to find the car. Well I have my questions as to the full capability of Ford/Microsofts Sync system, I think it can do the same thing but aside.

Both Onstar/Sync are easily disabled by the consumer as far as these ideas. The crooks are well aware how to disable Onstar's tracking and shutoff features.

The age old LoJack is the most well known but certainly not the only game. Ya'll have a choice just exercise it just like the law and dealer should exercise their right to boot this guys ass.

The scariest part of the story for me is that the dealership is installing the GPS systems in the cars for the purpose of repossessing the cars when buyers are overdue on payments. I wonder if this is disclosed to the consumers before they purchase the cars?

Here's the dealer website http://www.texasautocenter.net
I'm sure all these people knew that these systems were in their cars. I used to work next to one of these Buy Here Pay Here car lots. The customers would have to come in and make a payment every month, and someone would reset some computer in the car. If this computer wasn't reset after a certain number of days the car wouldn't turn on.
