actually, I have a gurkha pic for you. My local B&M claims to have the most Gurkha of any retailer in the state. This entire section is dedicated to them. There are more that I couldn't fit in the pic. Thanks Christos! That's a little peak of what you'll get to enjoy soon.

One of my new year's resolutions is to learn how to use my canon rebel more effectively. Build a lightbox today and started to snap some pics of some of my cigars. Here are the results. Any feedback would be appreciated. Just want to learn how to snap better pictures. Here is the link http://www.flickr.com/photos/45909671@N02/show/ |

EDIT: as the slideshow progressed, it looks like you got the focus problem solved. Just gotta work on that WB.

Thanks Chris. Can you tell me how to check my white balance? I am really new at this. Thanks for your suggestions. The rebel did beep when it was in focus. Starting to get the hang of this. |

You have the rebel XT or XTi? There is a dedicated button for WB at the bottom of the directions buttons next to the screen on the XT and XTi. It looks like it's a round button just above the directional buttons on the XSi... Your goal is to get the picture to look how you see it and the whites to be true white. If you are using fluorescent light, set it to the long bulb, etc... EDIT: Something just hit me. What mode are you shooting in? Please don't tell me auto. lol! I can't remember if you can make adjustments to wb and ISO and all that in auto on a dslr. I haven't had one in about a year. You should really try your hand at shooting in manual mode. It's the only way to take full advantage of having a nice DSLR IMO. It just takes practice learning what settings to use for shutter speed, ISO, Aperature, WB, AF, and all the other cool settings.

For this type of shooting I think Aperture priority is just as good as manual. Just imho.
