Sancho Panza Double Maduro... great first box
So my first box purchase was the Sancho Panza Double Maduro in the La Mancha size. I like RGs just under 50 so these Petit Coronas fit the bill. I purchased them for a friend's commissioning party (he commissioned last week as a 2Lt in the U.S. Army, going Armor). Anyway, I brought the leftovers home with me for the summer. I had one this evening while sitting out in front of the house sipping on a Sierra Nevada Summerfest (also not a bad brew if you're into the light, fruity summer style--which I'm usually not). The point of the thread is that the SP Double Maduro is a hell of a value. This tasted like a $5 stick at least, maybe even more. I was very pleasantly surprised and I'll be coming back to this again and again before I head away to OCS in a month. I bet I'll kill the rest of this box before then, quite the feat when you consider I usually only smoke 1 per week tops.
So, just wanted to give a to the SP Double Maduro. Best value smoke I've come across yet. On a side note though, anyone else have construction issues with these? Mine were smoked right out of the humi which was in the upper 60s (right around 67%). I've had 2 (of 3) of these SPDMs start unravelling at the head after cutting. They were delicious, but it got annoying when I took the band off and the cigar practically exploded on me. I'm not gentle on cigars, but I didn't drop it or anything like that. Similar experiences? I'd like to point out though that the Construction didn't take much away from the smoke at all... still well worth it. |

All of the SP DMs I;ve ever had have had their caps come off after cutting. Its just the way they are. They also like to loose their box press shape as they burn. Either way, fantastic cigar for the money.

No construction issues with my SP Double Maduros yet. They smoke like a dream and taste great. Great value stick.

Re: Sancho Panza Double Maduro... great first box
for delicate caps I use a razor blade and just cut a small circle off the very top of the end so the cap stays intact. sort of like a punch cut.
anyhow, I've always had good experiences with SPs, don't know if I've had the double maduro as I've always gotten them in trade. I'm not really certain which ones I tried but there wasn't a bad one in the bunch. |

Re: Sancho Panza Double Maduro... great first box
I have smoked 4 boxes of these in the last year and have 3 in the Vino right now. I have to agree that these are one of the best values on the market today. I believe that these are blended by Padron. Very good stick, Great Price!
Enjoy! |

I got introduced to these in a WTT with Shilala... A box delivered to him in trade for a 1-1/2 of his beads. He said these were one of his favorite smokes, so I had to try a box myself.
I also found that I really enjoy these little guys! I've had a few caps come loose, and I have punched a few with better results. I have a box sitting in the Vino right now!

These are the second box I've ever bought and they are great. Gonna pick up another but the Quixotes this time and pick up some Extra Fuertes. The only thing about the Double Maduros, besides caps falling off, was the very strong paint or laquer smell of the box when it arrived.

The La Manchas were also my first box purchase. I always keep some on hand, but I rarely smoke them anymore. There are just too many other things that grab my attention when I dip into my humi.
I have never had a stick put out the volume of smoke, especially when it's just resting as these DM's do.

One of my favorite smokes. It is money every time. The cap construction is a problem but the cost and quality of the smoke makes it worth it.
I picked up a bottle of the cigar glue from a B&M and take a little time and put a little on and it works like a charm. If I have forgotten to put some glue on before grabbing one, I put it in my mouth and moisten it a bit before cutting and it usually helps a bit also.

Re: Sancho Panza Double Maduro... great first box
I've never had a bad Sancho Panza which is probably why I bought 2 boxes before the Schip kicked in. But even with the extra tax these are affordable and good smokes.

One of my favorites as well. I always use a punch with these to avoid some of the cap issues.

Smoked one today. I usually moisten the cigar before I clip it. I think someone else mentioned this as well. The cap does not come off this way.
