Anyone been to Costa Rica?

We've booked a trip to Riu Palace in the fall. Apparently Costa Rica has fairly strict non-smoking laws -- pretty much no smoking in all public areas -- and every room at the resort is non-smoking. Hoping I can still enjoy a few cigars on our room's balcony. Anyone been to a resort there, or the Riu specifically, and can shed some light?

Here is the best story I can find on it. it appears you have to contact each hotel and ask about their smoking policy.
