SOPA-If you like forums you might...
want to search it.
SOPA is legislation which could hold web sites responsible for content placed there. Potentially a site whether knowingly or unknowingly allowing copy righted materials to be displayed without the owners permission could be shutdown, the entire site. |

This is politics, but will directly effect this site if either SOPA or PIPA passes. I expect a lock but maybe we should at least get people on the site aware?

I thought they managed to kill SOPA? I guess the new one they are trying to pass is a version called OPEN. The Online Protection and Enforcement of Digital Trade Act. Freakin' ridiculous is what they ought to call it.

No political bent was intended. Just found it very interesting and it seems like something that could impact forums such as this. This is something with far reaching potential but yet not much is heard about it.

Well, I think awareness of SOPA and PIPA for anybody is important. You can raise awareness about it without this turning into a political discussion

But there was due process with the Megaupload shutdown though...a lot of it in fact. With SOPA (or whatever bill they change the name to so they can try to fly under the radar) they wouldn't have needed that due process.

I saw an indictment, but the trial has not happened. However, that (indictment by grand jury) is more than the first story I read discussed.

I know a lot of sites i am active on shut down on the 18th to help raise awareness... man that was a crappy day for me, bricked my Motorola Photon and needed to find a SBF file to flash it back to stock so i could use my phone again, but XDA and numerous other sites were down. had to wait untill that night to get my phone up and running again...

Quoted from the AP:
WASHINGTON — Caving to a massive campaign by Internet services and their millions of users, Congress indefinitely postponed legislation Friday to stop online piracy of movies and music costing U.S. companies billions of dollars every year. Critics said the bills would result in censorship and stifle Internet innovation. By By (for now) PIPA and SOPA!
